also for the record planewreck, I didn't really think your orginal post was really prententious because:

a) it wasn't

b) that wouldn't have been the proper use of the word.

daily routine is cool but it's more the drone-y element to it that i like while guys eyes is more 'tribal' or something, idk

strawberry jam is one of their least engaging releases to me. but still great. it's coolest at its more 'electronic' (which explains probably why I really like this); i love Peacebone and #1 (been diggin this so hard lately, love the phasing patterns at the beginning which remind me of terry riley/steve reich). i don't like 'unsolved mysteries' at all, or 'chores'. but yeah it's a good record

i mean i know #1 is 'stretched out' but it's an element i really like stretched out, as opposed to one i dont care for too much

the second movement of daily routine is also quintessential animal collective, or more accurately, panda bear, and one of the best parts on the cd. Noah Lennox's interpretation of drone is unique and he excels at using his voice as the primary component of achieving the droning sound. The juxtaposition of Lennox's almost painfully drawn out pronunciation of the lyrics over the thundering bursts of piano and swirling, echoing noise make it one of the most compelling movements on the album, especially when used in combination with the song's brilliantly crafted first movement. The way the piano chords are spread out extremely far apart and are almost impossible to predict, again, Lennox's stretching of the lyrics both enforces and resolves the tension the listener feels in anticipating the next thunderous chord. After leading the listener through the fast-paced schizophrenic bursts of keyboard and heavy bass, Lennox perfectly resolves the adrenaline-fueled first section with the over-exaggerated moans and punctual blast of piano.

Yeah, definitely. That's why relatively, the repetition that Animal Collective employ is nothing compared to Panda's sprawling works. " Bros" is undeniably one of the most interesting pieces of music of the last decade though, with its ability to keep the listener captivated despite its utilization of only a handful of simplistic melodic themes. I've run into much hostility towards Animal Collective's live performance, a friend complained of the fact that they looped the beginning of Summertime Clothes for 8 minutes and they stretch Daily Routine out much longer live. But people have to realize that both on album and live, Animal Collective are all about repetition. Its probably the single most important technique they use, which is almost self-evident given their obsession with loops and samples. Their early work often ignored coherence or melody for this technique but all of their best songs on recent albums still essentially base themselves on this extreme repetition. Whether its Fireworks, which employs that same intense, rolling drum loop for almost 7 minutes, Brothersport's endless repetition of the final chorus, or Comfy In Nautica's use of the same note/sample for the whole song, the members of Animal Collective have struck the perfect balance of repetition and catchiness, approaching and flirting with the line of becoming overbearing. One of my favorite parts on Merriweather is that little sample that repeats over and over in the middle section of Brothersport, so awesome.

write a review of this album or person pitch you are good at explaining things

I think Bros is amazing too, a lot of AC/panda bear is about repeating stuff hypnotically past the point where people expect change, then changing it, which makes it all the more exciting/unexpected
