I hate that I'm saying this... though I think exaggerated, there might be SOME merit in Brand New wanting Daisy to be sub par. From what I've see/read the band as a whole seems exhausted and I could see how they subconsciously botched the album simply because their heads aren't there anymore.

Not saying it's fact but it's certainly seems like a possibility to me.

Interesting idea.... but if that were the case, don't you think Jesse would've had Vince write all the songs hahahahaha!

@Prophet

I don't know if he did this on a conscious level, but even if he did, he'd still want to release something at least somewhat redeeming. Rationalizing isn't one of the stages of grief, but I think I'm into something because: 1 - they wrote a record that could be fun for them to play live; 2 - there're things on this record that are downright stupid, like the ending of Gasoline and Be Gone; 3 - The fans would eat up regardless of what they did, and they're very aware of that, so when they do release new stuff, it'll melt our faces off.

What I'm trying to say is this, what if Jesse is buffering lyrics, songs and all to a next record? What if this is some sort of huge "Be Gone" of a record, a filler record only to generate expectation to their next one?

Visualize this record as a whole like an interlude, right? People are really mad at them. Rabid fanboys are still defending like a masterpiece regardless, but they know they're losing at least sells with this one (since this is mostly going to their record label, as much as they care that their fanbase $how $ome love$, they don't care really because the huge chunk of money isn't going for them anyway), but what if this record plays as a weird interlude to when they finally go independent again? They're speaking of releasing some stuff soon, it seems they have to release a DVD to get rid off the major, but what if next year BANG, new record, loads of Jesse Lacey songs and stuff? They are having the cake and eating too, if you're getting what I'm trying to say. They don't want us to fuckin hate this, that isn't what I'm trying to say; what I'm trying to say is that they maybe are preserving some songs under their sleeves to afterwards.

I think I'm the first guy to really decode the deeper meaning behind this record. I'm so fuckin proud of myself, haha.

Yeah, its definitely an interesting theory. It would be funny to see them drop their label now and come back under a new name with another killer album.

what redsparrow's saying isn't too far from my views on Daisy (even if he is being retarded about it). In my soundoff I compare Daisy and In Utero for that very reason; Daisy and In Utero both feel like purposefully dissonant albums to tear away some of the band's mainstream, major label appeal. So maybe it is possible this album is angstier and louder on purpose, but I also think being DIFFERENT wasn't the only motivation behind the sound of the record.

I honestly don't think I'm being retarded about it. I think I finally nailed what this record is. Bought A Bride lyrics are BETTER and more complete (with the additional lyrics, I mean) on the acoustic set.

This isn't their way to scare away "fair weather" fans or fans that won't buy into anything they do, this is their way of saving up the real good stuff for later. They have a contract and need to fill that, so they just had fun on studio and used the "Jesse is dried up to write more lyrics" argument as an excuse.

And it's hardly their last record. I could see Jesse Lacey doing a solo record next, but Brand New are far from over. I can almost bet people will only really get why the lyrics and the whole record sounds so dissonant of their previous stuff on the next record. Jesse doesn't unlearned how to make songs, he's saving his songwriting for a next thing. Being a solo record or a Brand New record, I still can't tell.

@holyroach

They didn't want to release a "shitty" album, what I am saying is what if they do have more songs (remember how the Fight Off Your Demons demos had more songs they didn't release, maybe they do have unreleased songs and ideas out of Daisy too) written by Jesse Lacey, but are saving them to release them when they go separate ways with their major.

It's not about purposely sucking, it's about saving some songs to when you'll really release something that you'll get more money off.

Of course they care more about music, but like everyone, they have bills to pay. I'm just trying to think outside the box and understand why Jesse hadn't a higher input on the songwriting. My guess is that they're saving the goods to when they go indie, maybe next year already.
