Sampo and Majestic Beast are fantastic. Rest is average-decent.

The vocalist isn't THAT limited from what I've heard, at least compared to most other rock/metal singers...he just doesn't sing for "range," per se. He seems to be more about putting a crap load of power into notes that are easy for him to reach...just a different use of the airways. I can understand if it's not your thing, particularly if you're more a "omg high falsetto balls to the wall" type of guy, but it's more a matter of taste than talent.

Heh, my fave albums from amorphis are elegy , tuonela and far from the sun.

I really don't like the current vocalist.

And whats up with skyforgers album cover, looks like a static lullaby's faso latido

This review is weak. Although I am a lathered up fan of Tales through Tuonela, and even though I don't consider this album up to those standards, either way, I don't feel this reviewer has even a rudimentary understanding of this band and it's evident musical roots. Also, Pasi hasn't been the vocalist for more than five fucking years...a sure indication of the reviewer's knowledge.

Sorry. This review is weak and I recommend a broader listening "lens" to draw conclusions to. And, again, I'm not making a statement with or against this album, your perspective is just horrible. Other readers should know that!

Hello fanboy, let me try to introduce you to a little thing called "perspective". I understand that you have an unmitigated love for all things Amorphis and are totally willing to ignore any faults in order to defend said love, but there are those out there with a more realistic view. I'm not saying that those that like this album are being unrealistic, but those that so strongly fight for this album (or any album), like you, are obviously a little delusioned, if nothing else.

As for my lack of understanding concerning this band's musical roots, I've been listening to this band since Tales all the way up to now and have a full grasp of everything they've done. Also, mentioning Pasi when that was fixed weeks ago is simply grasping at anything you can to defend your beloved band. The use of his name was a simple mistake combined with piss-poor proof-reading on my part.

If by broader "lens" you mean your opinion, I'm sure most can see that it would be like looking through a straw. Thanks for playing.

this album deserves at least a 3.5

it definitely feels like a natural progression into their sound

now if they come out with skyforger 2 then that would be a problem

Why does it deserve a 3.5? For all the disagreements I haven't seen a completed thought process yet (i.e. another review). Just because it's a natural progression doesn't mean it was a good progression.

a 3.5 because it stands out from all the other melodic metal bands that just basically rip off In Flames, At The Gates etc.

Despite having simple song structures each song still has its own character.

Just because they took on a much more melodic approach doesnt make this album bad.

What this album lacks is depth, and thats something that Silent Waters had alot of

I was expecting at least one insanely badass track on here like Towards And Against from Silent Waters but it never happened. It's like viewing explicit material and never getting any wood.
