how is that an excuse? by that logic, literally anyone with a macbook could make BM albums worthy of 4+ rating. There's hardly anything noteworthy here. Songwriting, vocals, instruments? Where is the merit? I want to understand why this is supposedly so good but nobody is willing to defend it with any substance. I don't care what country he's from, what year it was, or where the genre was at this point. I just want to know why this is great music.

i would love to know too, i kinda vibe with this but not to the point of 5'ing it
i mean i can tell it's not composition in the sense of chord progressions but lol

right, like I said, the last track is pretty cool and has a lot of atmosphere. but I just can't understand a 5 at this point

To me, this and Blaze in the Northern Sky are the two best black albums that I've ever heard. This atmosphere brings me into a different world, moreso than most other albums. I could totally understand someone not digging this, though. Then again, I am not huge on black metal - much more of a death and thrash kinda guy.

"Where is the merit?"
it sounds good
it's art you like it or you don't
merit has nothing to do with anything
you don't understand 5ing this and i don't understand why you're wasting time being an idiot here when there's no way you're too stupid to understand some people like some things and some people dislike some things

i can't feel the atmosphere unfortunately, i would like it if the production was a bit more intense but i guess i get it

yeah but I want to know what exactly people like about it. I'm not a full-time troll, I actually do enjoy enjoying things that other people enjoy. there have been plenty of times in the past when I don't like a band simply because I don't "get" them, but then it clicks. I generally appreciate black metal, but this album almost sounds like parody

that's why filosofem is way better at achieving what this album tries to achieve

Nah bro, this is better than Filosofem imo. Filosofem has that shitty static sound throughout and it makes me want to die. Should probably repeat that I'm not huge on black metal, me loving an album like this is rare as fuck so I'm probably out of my element here but

I listened to filosofem a couple months ago and I remember not hating it. I'll probably give that another spin

i can't imagine anyone not liking at least the opener on filosofem, that track is just the most immense thing i've ever heard

It's OK but it's no Five Finger Death Punch

This is great but A Blaze just has a far more earned sense of morbidity and Funeral Moon has a more accomplished otherworldly atmosphere. Hvis and Det are far better than the likes of Filosofem though.

Agreed, now jam some Pantera and eat a live, screaming animal.

I'll probably listen to Power Metal later today. Vinnie had some great drumming on that one.

Nevermind, we're never going to agree on this.

atmosphere is amazing and absorbing, the constant barrage of repetition helps lull you into this meditative, calm state, the melodies are super simple but very strong, the vocals are tortured and emotive
boooom why I (and i assume) other people like it
