They definitely work in some instances. But there are parts (the chorus of "Breathe" for example) that are almost embarrasing to listen to. The chorus in "Burn Out Brighter" feels played out and stale. I'll agree with you on that "Haight Street" lyric. That's probably my favorite song off of this record.This Message Edited On 12.12.08

why dont you guys write 4 records and see if you feel the same each time you write them. cities was awesome because the songs told stories but stephen wanted new surrender to be completely selfless because he thought cities was too egocentric

I'll be confused (and dissapointed) if they're not a multi-platinum band by their next album.
I think I like Cities just a little bit more, but New Surrender is still so so so amazing.
