The only part of the title track that drags is the first clean guitar part, but the rest of the song is so killer that it totally makes up for it.

QFT, but the acoustic bit is still great, just too long.

Not just death metal, it's like progressive melodic jazz folk doom alternative death metal. I'm probably missing something, but if one band can mix all those genres, it's worth your time.

Yeah, but it's better than just about any album you would have on your iPod. :thumb:
Well worth the space.

Awesome review, you always seem to make essays out of these TBTs. This is going to be one album that I'm gonna pick up because of it's reputation on this site.

This album and Still Life are two albums I just can't listen to a few songs, I usually just listen to it all the way through

I actually owned this CD and just didn't have the energy to listen to it. I find it a bit exhausting to just see a list of songs over ten minutes long. Eventually, I just listened to it as background music while I was working on other stuff - this may offend the purists who feel that to listen to Opeth you really have to concentrate - but whatever, this was how I actually got into Opeth. Now I love 'em. My advice to those who struggle with Opeth is to use the same system. Their music will infiltrate your system and you will be hooked. Blackwater Park is a classic. Great review. This Message Edited On 11.21.06

one of my favorite albums. ever

Any rating less that Classic is not right. Blackwater Park is the benchmark of what a metal album should be. Perfect use of dynamics and changes, perfect placement of instruments and vocals. This album personally is very special as it got me excited in performing music again. Any band that has that effect should be heard by all.

The more I listen to Opeth, the more impressed I am. I heard my first Opeth a month ago and they are starting to leave my other favourites in the dust. If this music doesn't start to get old, I'm in trouble . . .

I haven't heard much from these guys, but what I have heard only sounded decent. It's obvious they have talent, but they just sounded kind of dull to me. I know that they are probably one of those bands that you have to listen to a lot before you understand the music and start to like it, but I just have not got around to that yet.
Nice review BTW. It makes the album sound really good.

Is this really "the greatest metal album ever"? Ive only heard The Grand Conjuration, and it was nothing short of amazing.
