My ex said once that Annie-Dog sounds like a sad version of Never Gonna Give You Up and I'm still so mad because it's true

A hard album to digest in one listen, but a highly rewarding experience. Finally grew on me.

definitely a tough one to get through in one sitting, but the first time i'd gotten this album my favorite bands were Depeche Mode & Primal Scream, so it was easy to appreciate the electronic side of the record as well as the general atmosphere of the thing, as heavy as it could be after going through all 16 tracks

You love him, you love him for yourself, you love him and no one, no one else.

The repetition in Daphne Descends is actually really creative in my opinion :P

It has a great ending as well, D'Arcy's backing vocals are chilling.

I agree! Any reason to why its called Daphne Descends though?

I'm assuming the girl in the song is named Daphne, but why is she descending?

Maybe she's dying, hence the 'descends'... let me take a look at the full lyrics.

I think the "descent" is a loss of innocence.

I read somewhere that Daphne in Greek mythology was a secret lover of Apollo's that Apollo had to leave after his wife discovered them together.

That would actually make more sense in the context of the song, as it seems to be about falling in love with someone you shouldn't have fallen in love with. You know, just as Apollo shouldn't have fallen for Daphne (!). Maybe that's it.

If that's true, that makes the lyrics even better than I though... :o

Yeah, man. On another note, I get a strange Crooked Rain-era Pavement vibe from the main riff of Shame, wonder if I'm the only one.

Why some people still hold a grudge against this album I'll never know.

Think people were just so disappointed with it after Siamese and Mellon Collie. However it stands up as a great album, by far the best post Mellon Collie release imo.
