This is the only Mogwai album out of the first five, where i feel that it drags quite a bit towards the end

Cody is the drippiest song in the universe and I love it more than life itself

Cody is fantastic. Revisiting their discog and (somewhat surprisingly) I prefer understated slowcore Mogwai to noisy Mogwai, although at times they incorporate both pretty seamlessly. Young Team is often held up as their pinnacle, yet much of their more refined compositions are found on the 3 following LPs.

Loosely agreed; I'd put this at the top of the pile (heard up to Mr Beast) and Young Team probs in the middle; Mogwai are all about the slow creeps and them feels. Case-in-point is how Christmas Steps is a note-perfect post rock banger, but Chocky still manages to one-up it by ominously repeating the same piano arp a million times over

Happy Songs was my historical fave, really enjoying this + Rock Action at the minute. It’ll be interesting to see how it stacks up now. I cannot remember anything about Mr. Beast, I don’t even have it rated 🤔.

Happy Songs is probs second best after this, not quite the same journey but a load of great tracks. Ig Mr. Beast is a more colourful fullon from that one? It has a handful of tracks I'd rate pretty highly
