I didn't like this that much at first but it has really grown on me, but that seems to be the trend with Dillinger and me. Although this is still probably my least favorite of their three full-lengths, I still think it's great.

The rating needs to be changed on this, come on a 2.5 or 3 at least.

I'm still getting used to this...I've never really listened to anything like this before. This is my first DEP record, and I've of course heard Unretrofied before. I really like Milk Lizard and Sick on Sunday from here, but besides that, I still need time to get used to it.

I don't understand why so many people hate on this album.
It's tight and the sound is evenly balanced.
You have the chaotic songs like Fix Your Face, the poppy songs like Black Bubblegum, and mixtures of the two like Milk Lizard.
Maybe it's hated because "Calculating Infinity", "Miss Machine," and "Irony is a Dead Scene" stomps its face in?
My biggest pet peeve with this album was that more than half of it was random instrumentals that were placed all over just to make it so there was at least 10 tracks.
Worst Dillinger album of course, but I still like it.

Yeah the instrumentals are really lame.
Aside from that, this is really solid. I love Lurch.

Album isn't bad.
The filler is bad.
Period.

This is about equal to MM (Ire Works is slightly better), and both are their worst.
Calculating Infinity>Under the Running Board>Irony is a Dead Scene>self-titled>Ire Works>Miss Machine
I hate post-Demitri Dillinger if you couldn't tell.

Four words to sum up this album:
"SOME KILLER, MOST FILLER."
I don't really get where you're going with the whole "sounds like a crappy version of a Coheed song thing."
Nothing from Dillinger sounds remotely like Coheed.
Not even the drums.

Yeah, this pretty much sums it up.

The fillers aren't bad they just appear too often.
If you took the fillers out, Ire Works would be an EP.This Message Edited On 02.13.08

Greg just has this whiny tone that I can't get used to. I liked their chaotic style more, and Demitri fit that better. The only benefit that came from his departure was Irony.

Amen. I really like Horse Hunter - Brent's vocal part is pretty sick.

This is the most painful, uniformed read since that one Thrice blurb that talked about Linkin Park.

Ya that is a pretty bad read and I have yet to see a review that properly gives a score of around 3/3.5. It seems there is no middle ground.
I give it a 4 cause I loved the instrumental tracks, I know some don't feel the same way. This Message Edited On 02.21.08

Dear God, normally I will just keep my mouth shut about EVERYTHING on the internet, but there is too much to be said here.
Firstly - yes, I realize it is a matter of opinion - but how can so many people think Miss Machine is a bad album? If you like Dillinger - what they are, and what they have always been meant to be, then Miss Machine is their best album. CI was a step too far in crazy technicality, that, while an amazing album (5 out of 5 for me), didn't experiment as much as DEP wanted to.
A lot of what Ire Works is feels like a step back to the bands "Running Board" and Self-titled EP Days, only this time around, it SUCKS. Songs like 'Monticello' and 'I Love Secret Agents' are gone, and replaced with songs like 'Milk Lizard', featuring videos with flying stools and Fall Out Boy dress-ups.
People who don't like Greg - he has been with the band FAR longer than Dimitri ever was, get over it, jesus. He sings well on albums - ON ALBUMS. My qualm with him, and in part with this record, is that he is possibly the shittiest live singer in the history of the planet. A random Youtube search reveals attempts of him trying to 'sing' live failing miserable. Quick listen to a video of 'Setting Fire to Sleeping Giants' confirms - so gross.
Gil is an amateur compared to Chris. Gil can only take a standard approach to the kit, and to drumming, and try to warp it to meet the unrealistic standard set by Chris Pennie - which can be achieved by no one other than him. Chris's feel around the kit, his dynamics, grooves, and everything else, make him a million times better than Gil. Also - HIS ELECTRONIC INFLUENCE. This is why songs like "Sunshine the Werewolf" exist in the past, and now we have bullshit like "Sick On Sunday", which is the shittiest sounding thing I've ever heard with the name Dillinger on it.
The 'real' mathcore songs here are all overly repetitive, unimaginative, going through the motions bullshit which proves this band has lost any hope it had of being once again glorious. When I hard Fix Your Face, I got swept up in the glee of more songs like it... but now, after front to back listening to this, and Miss Machine, Fix Your Face feels retarded and paltry. Also, the production on this album is bad.
to everyone who thinks Ire Works is a good album - WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU? I know everything in music is opinion, but dear God, saying that feels so wrong to me, I don't understand at all where you're coming from. The more I listen to it, the more I hate this album. I mourn the demise of a once-great band. DEP is dead, and this album proves it.

^^Forced progression is a bitch eh but you can't do anything about members leaving.
Also remember they were one guitarist down on this one.
AND it's not confirmed (moreso obvious) but these guys def spent less time in the studio recording Ire Works then Miss Machine awhole lot.
I'm surprised to hear someone enjoy Miss Machine a whole lot but doesn't like Ire Works....weird.
Maybe their next pressing will impress you again but man Ire Work is def not a 1.
