I've never been too big of a Thrice fan so I wasn't sure if I was really going to like this album but it's great. I slightly prefer the Water disc, only because "Night Diving" is so awesome.

you made no mention of the sonnets at the end of each disc, at least in regards to the overall summation of things they possess, as well as the way they are composed of similar melody and structure.

the likeness can also be observed in the air sonnet, which is heard in the first of the alchemy index videos.

just saying....that was one of my favorite aspects of the album, but perhaps maybe it will be more obvious once all of the discs are released.

Fear not neszero, I was very aware of the sonnets and also enjoyed them and their motivic connections a lot. I mean a lot a lot.
And by the way, something nobody has noticed yet and I couldn't really fit into my review is that you can tell the last two tracks are the sonnets just musically. Thrice announced that the song in the first Alchemy Index trailer video was a sonnet. The ending of "The Flame Deluge" and "Kings Upon the Main" both have the same choral motif to close the song, which is also present in that first video. It's cool that in the sonnet form, each volta has the same musical content despite the fact that the preceding material is drastically different (as in Fire vs. Water vs. Air vs. Earth). I think I'll mention that in the completeness part of my second review that takes into account the whole collection.
i'm not sure where i'm at with this. i think the guitar tone during middle - end of night diving is one of the finest i've ever heard. simple but totally effective riff too. not sure where i am at with the rest of water. the fire disk is pretty good, i'm still getting my head around it as well

This albums slays, unequivocally. Quickly topping Vheissu for me.

Yeah I thought that this was actually a pretty good year for music. Especially the second half of this year.

Yea, second half of this year has seen some fantastic releases. Oh yea, so i finally got round to listening to this. I'm really not a huge fan of Fire tbh, but i love Burn The Fleet. Water on the other hand, is fantastic.

I think it's a great year for entertainment alone. Look at the movies (especially in the comedy department), games, music, and even some TV (which I generally hate and despise - retarded watching a show an hour every week for years and years).

The Flame Deluge is like a doom/sludge metal-esque song and I love how they went in that direction with that song. I think the fire great from track 1 to 6. I hate how underrated "The Messenger" and "The Arsonist" are on this album.

The water disc (along with the fire disc) is very mood oriented. For instance, I have been in a heavy post-hardcore/punk mood lately so the Fire album is probably the better of the two right now. Yet, water is still incredibly solid and consistent, even though I would have preferred if they added a heavy track to that album just to kinda of shatter expectations but still keeping the theme of a water concept (that can feel as if it's dragging at times).
