and i could use college as an excuse but until about 2007 or so, college kids still bought new albums. you hear stories of entire dorms listenin to, i dunno, physical graffiti the day it came out or some shit. you dont hear about that anymore. granted there's a lot more things to stimulate folks than a collection of songs, i guess if i hadnt been raised on rock i might be sittin around on xanax watchin vines and not knowin nothing lol

ooh that sucks dude. i just smoke and drink, no hard drugs. although tbh alcohol IS a hard drug but its socially acceptable to have beer for no reason so yeah

never dug pride and prejudice but i admire austen satirizing high society, i should probably reread some of her work since im not 15 anymore

i was an english major for a semester but i hated it, its sad cause i wanted to teach english for a long long time but over time came to hate the way the subject is taught

nowadays im happy with history w/ a teaching certification pathway, i still get to write but its about more matter of fact things. i was spoiled with a few really great english teachers in k-12 so i was really let down when i got to college and encountered all these professors who had such lucky jobs but seemed to hate showing up to work

i remember analyzing some poem from the late 19th century and comparing the language to beatnik writing, my prof had no idea what i was even referring to. things like that over time started to bother me, im not even a big beat reader but its an important enough 20th century movement to know about right?

Haha austen was so forced upon me recently. I wanted nothing to do with her. Now im in love man

and for me its the exact opposite my community college profs pushed me into taking the risk of becoming an english major. Im a big math guy and was a econ major for a while but got bored. I missed reading and writing and now its just a natural fit. Good profs are a dime a dozen however that much is true and thats why i want to become one.

This is fucking horrifying man here in California you'd probably be assaulted by a chick with 10 facial piercings for such an offense

man i wish my college was a bit more like those inspiring ones at the movies. we didnt even read a book outside of class in any of my classes, we'd read like snippets of books or a poem and analyze them, but in high school somehow there was time to do that plus read actual novels. but i guess nowadays its expecting too much of kids to read a book in between snapchats and shit lol. hell my philosophy professor spent the whole class trying to prove god's existence. its bizarre - good subject matter but he made it very clear that your grade was dependent on regurgitating what he said

i started off as a marketing major but that was going against who i am cause i cant do some shit like that, so i went with what i was always good at despite the fact that english and history limit your job options and whatnot

see i live in mostly rural/suburban georgia, not quite deliverance area cause we have restaurants and a mall slowly going out of business. i havent had many teachers who knew about "counterculture" shit, even really mainstream stuff like hunter thompson. my 8th grade english teacher had never heard of catcher in the rye and she was late 50-something. those are basic books, love em or hate em

Thats what impeded me for 3 whole years my grandfather's words ringing in my ears "there's no money in that subject". After 3 years and reading nathaniel hawthorne i said fuck it time to do what i love

Im not trying to boast about where i live at all but if you ever get a chance to live here man take it in a heartbeat. I grew up literally where counterculture was created. Ive fucking met and had a conversation with peter coyote
