Review Summary: Riffs hard as fuck

Grenadier is a five-piece Canadian melodic death metal band that writes riffs suspiciously similar to a certain infamous Virginia-based melodic death metal band known for killer riffs and highly racist views. You know the band, and I know that you know that you need more of those riffs. Luckily, the Grenadier boys have got us covered and their debut album Trumpets Blare in Blazing Glory absolutely smokes the latest Arghoslent release, somehow managing to do it all without being racist.

What we have here is a near carbon copy of Arghoslent’s Hornets of the Pogrom style and it goes hard. Right from the second the listener presses play, the opening track, "Atrocity Cycle", comes out swinging with kick-ass, triumphant riffs and belted out vocals that sound like the soundtrack to soldiers charging into battle. As the song continues, the band keeps hitting the listener with riff after riff as the song doesn’t let up for a full 5 minutes straight. This opening track sets the tone for the album perfectly, as Trumpets Blare in Blazing Glory doesn’t relent for its entire 37 minute runtime.

Now would probably be a good time to mention that Trumpets Blare in Blazing Glory is an absolute ***ing riff-fest. The fact that the boys were able to cram so many bitchin' riffs into this album is actually quite impressive. Some of the riffs have some black metal touches while others have obvious NWOBHM influences which keeps it from feeling too repetitive. So many of the riffs are catchy as hell too, to the point that you’d be hard pressed to find a bad track on here. The entire thing ***ing kills.

If you haven’t listened to this yet, what are you even doing? Don’t waste your time reading this review. Grenadier is the band we always knew we needed but never had and these guys are doing Arghoslent’s style better than Arghoslent is doing it these days. If you like melodic death metal that goes fast and riffs hard as ***, you need to get on this banger ASAP. Thank me later.

I got bored and thought I'd give this one a quick, unserious write-up. This seriously kicks ass and so does their other album.

For sure, I'd say they are the best band to emulate this style.

They are on drakkar which is unfortunate. At the same time have songs on this album written from the perspective of like African and Egyptian warriors on here, and distinctly not in an Arghoslent way. In their latest album they also write about the horrors of Catholic boys schools and of the genocide against First Nations peoples in Canada in a way that doesn't feel like they're celebrating it at all, quite the opposite actually. That's definitely unlike how their shitty labelmates would approach it.

Probably not very based, but at least they don't seem to be blatant white supremacists. Piss on Arghoslent. Throw a brick at one of their shows (after sneaking in and not paying for a ticket, of course).
