"Hello you; how was the rest?" The first lyric of Yellowcard's latest album, Lights and Sounds. This is certainly a question that needs answering. With the title track, Lights and Sounds, giving the image that Yellowcard are going to a harder sound it'd be expected that the record would be hit after hit of edgier music than one thinks of Yellowcard. This is not so. The album suffers from being a larger record than the standard pop punk affair. With fourteen songs and over fifty-minutes, Lights and Sounds wears thin after a while. While songs like 'Grey' and 'Rough Landing, Holly' fit in with the image Lights and Sounds portrays, barely anything else does. At times it seems all the record can do is offer poppy, melodramatic ballads that repeat themselves over and over again. Ryan Key's singing is about the same as it always has been. He shouts, or moans for the most part and his singing does vary much. It seems that the band attempted to keep the album from being repetitive by trying to vary the sound. "Two Weeks From Twenty" is one of those songs and feels Beach Boys inspired, but comes out completely unoriginal and boring. Violinist Sean Mackin and drummer Longineu Parsons III prove themselves as the most talented of the band by providing steady rhythms and interesting fills. Lights and Sounds does have a few good songs, but that's all it can offer.

Damn, you read before I edited it a second time again with a bit more stuff.

I remember you saying you can read a novel in a day, at least I think that was you, maybe Hep Kat.
| | | Indeed you do^.
The review was very well written, but somewhat short. Could even be a blurb really.

Blurbs are gone, dude. They are all now actual reviews.
| | | Blurbs are gone? Damn that means my arcade fire blurb is now a review? I must re-write it post haste.
| | | Album Rating: 4.5
Someone didn't like the review. I was thinking that people who don't know about the blurbs would neg people like this.
| | | It got my vote :thumb:
| | | I voted that this was well written, because it is. I like your opening few sentences. Even though I do think it is a few 100 words too short.
| | | Yeah I know I read that, meh I actually think that this is a bit lacking, therefore it is too short, but I'll be politically correct :p
Storm In A Teacup, I thought your review was written well but lacked a bit of specific detail. This Message Edited On 06.21.06

I think the length is fine, personally. Even though it is my review I still think it's not bad. I was going for a more concise aproach anyway.
| | | Yeah I actually think your review is fine, like I said before, it's written well. Me personally I like a bit more 'meat' to a review, maybe the same length again, but let me tell you I prefer the length of this than those 2,500 word essays!
| | | My girlfriend plays this in the car. It's a welcome breath of fresh air from that country music bullshit she plays the rest of the time.
Anyway, track 6 it's fucking fantastic, especially for this band. Glad to hear they released it as the second single (right?). Also, the "we breathe, the windows down" song is very good. The one about suicide isn't bad either. This Message Edited On 06.22.06
| | | Yeah, the intro is so sweet with the violin and the second guitar acting as a pedal tone (more or less). It's just fantastic. The chorus is very catchy too.

I completely agree about the intro to "Rouch Landing, Holly". It's the best part of the whole album.

I think I liked the last song, track 6 or 5 (can't remember) and the intro. I think. And that's it. I think.
Also, wasn't this made into a sound off or something? This Message Edited On 06.22.06

I deleted the Sound Off myself and lengthened the review about 30-50 words.

Ah, I see.
| | | Terrible band. Good, concise review.

their are some great songs on here and some really horrible ones like the first single "lights and sounds." i hate that song. it really downplays yellowcards talent. and "two weeks from twenty" is pretty horrid. i had to super glue my hands to a wall and then duct tape my arms together once just so i could actually get through that whole song and give it a chance. but about 1 minute into it i started crying and then i sh*t my pants..... in a bad way.
| | | I am going to make it my personal duty to buy every copy of this CD on earth, not because one copy isnt enough, but because i will feel personally responsible if some1 accidently buys this CD and listens to it. It was so commercially censored i couldnt stand it. Yellowcard= Backstreet Boys with instruments.
