Review:
You put in the cd and...
1.) Wish I May -- a great intro song. starts of with an increasing volume into a scream... my head naturally moves backwards during this point, to prepare for the guitars to come in in a second. and they come in hard. Ben's vocals are outstanding. The verses have a heavy godsmack-like sound, and a light chorus. this song even comes with a good guitar solo. Ends with an angry yell
2.) Medicate -- a jumpy intro into a trippy verse... bens vocals again shine... into a jumpy chorus. ends with some dooo-ooooh-oooh's
3.) Polyamourous -- their first single. a very popular song. at the local radio station... it was the number one song for the record amout of time i think. a very good song. i guess i dont need to say about the great vocals. this song is very catchy.
4.) Skin -- a cheery, yet... heavy beat... a quite cheery song.i'm not sure... but htis might be the second single. also catchy.
5.) Natural Life -- a tool-tastic intro. only shorter than a tool intro. Whispers "Hold Still" as guitars take hold duh! duh! duh! duh!. the verse kind of makes you sway back and forth. a jumpy chorus into the duh duh duh. lots of instrumental breaks, much like tool. ends with heavy breathing
6.) Next To Nothing -- an acoustic track, mostly. the chorus is distorted. a great song vocally. and a nice, well suited for the song, solo
7.) Water -- this song is great. a very tool-rific intro. veary heavy and angry song. the chorus lightens it up, but just enough that the heavy seems heavier.
8.) Home -- A song about the wizard of oz. "There is no place like home". heavy intro. a cool end of chorus... a very good song. lyrics are very good. its about the wizard of oz, but it applies to other things to. very nice song. great vocals as usual.
9.) Phase -- the most tool-o-rama intro on the cd. very slow... long intro... i love it. the drummer is a very tallented precussionist. music kicks in at 1:18, vocals at 1:27. its got a slight tool lyricy to it. good bridge from verse to chorus. a nifty guitar solo, and a realy angry breakdown at the end... everythign gets quiet... "i know... I know... I know... IT's Just a ****ing phase!!" in a great yell.
10.) No games. -- good lyrics. a trippy sound through the first part of the verse, but they break it down hard in teh second part, let up again for the chorus, and go back to trippy. this song has a violin playing in it. its very beautifull... if i can say that and still have masculinity that is...
11. ) Sugarcoat -- hard pounding riff to open this one, followed by an acoustic verse, and into a hard pounding chorus. very good lyrics here too. they could be taken many ways.
12.) Shallow Bay -- My favorite song on the album. Starts off with a great heavy intro. first on one guitar, then the other one joins. this would be the "f-em all" track on the cd. The instrumental break is nice and heavy, and the song ends with a violin solo
13.) Bonus Track -- this is the only song i'm not really a fan of. it kind of soudns like a hotel act or lounge act to me.great vocals though, and the voilin is back. but this song just doesnt do it for me.
Summary:
Hard Pounding Riffs are found all across this cd, great vocals, and i mean great vocals. when he yells, its not screamo, or all scratcy. it sounds good. when he sings, he can sing. Great instrumental Breaks. a few nice guitar solos. all in all. very good
Rating: i really love this cd. i give it a 4/5.
