Review Summary: I take back what I said about Kid A, this is the worst thing I've ever heard.
Imagine if you will a bright open meadow as far as the eye can see. Now imagine it being crushed by bulldozers preparing to build the next big shopping mall for little kids to loiter and smoke at. That's what listening to this album feels like. Its without a doubt the absolute worst piece of garbage on this face of the planet. And no amount of scrubbing will ever, ever wipe my mind clean from this trash. I tried to like it, I really did. I listened to it four times to see if I was missing something...and I thought Kid A gave me a headache...
You might be thinking it's not really fair to harp on these guys since they were so influential in their genre of Screamo, and for the most part you'd be right. I mean I hate the Rolling Stones but I won't harp on them just because they're old and helped to define classic rock. But these guys are different, these guys are absolutely offensive to my ears and make me want to stab them with pens. These guys, especially the vocalist, are responsible for the bottle of ibuprofen that I've rushed through in the past six hours. And it all boils down to one simple thing, the singer's voice. I know I complained about the horns in Kid A and I know I complained about Jacob's voice in Jane Doe and I know I complained about the voice in Aeroplane over the Sea. But this is worse than all of them. The voice to end all bad voices.
You see, you need look no further than the awful wretched piece of trash called Venus and Bacchus which has probably the worst vocals on this album, and that's saying a LOT. The singer's paper thin scream is most reminiscent of a little girl who dropped her ice cream cone in the park, not of a singer with the fury of an animal, like this should be. Even a whiny emo kid who just broke up with her boyfriend has more ferocity than this. This guy is like a fly buzzing in your ear and then dying in it, mid-buzz. This is the worst thing I've ever heard. And there will never be anything worse. Ever.
