Great Album and reveiw. More songs would of been nice though. My favorite songs are: The Deadly Rythm and Summer Holidays vs. Punk routine

This CD needs more love. It's definetly one of the better so called "hardcore" albums out there.

Best. Album.Ever (well almost)
I was waiting for someone to review this, and I guess you've done a decent review.

Refused were awesome. Why did they have to break up?! :upset:
|
| |
1. Worms of the senses / Faculties of the skull
Awesome song...really gets it started with the right 'jump', if you will, and the riffs are insane
2. Liberation frequency
A unique song. Quite verses, crazy-*** chorus, and quite powerful lyrics too. Shows off some versatility that is present in most Refused songs
3. Deadly Rhythm
Good god what a ****ing riff. My favourite song off the CD, and has a unique bridge of a 'swing-y' bass. The lyrics are once again ingenius and quite original, as is usual with Dennis.
4. Summerholidays vs. punkroutine
One of my least-favourite songs of them album...granted, it's not a bad song, just not my favourite. I do, however, like the bass bit near the end, if you all know what I mean
5. Bruitist Pome #5
Eyebrow-raiser there....
6. New Noise
A classic. Starts off nice and quiet and then BAM "Can I Scream?" Well, Mr. Dennis, yes you sure can...and yes, you sure do. Quality lyrics, quality riffs, and the double-time bridge makes me cream my jeans every time.
7. The Refused Party Program
This song grew on me. Wasn't a huge fan of it at first, but the more I listen to it, the more I like it. Has Dennis going on a mini-rant to begin, then heads right in. The bass is particularly awesome.
8. Protest Song '68
Another song that I didn't like a whole lot at first, but appreciated more as time went on. A friend of mine put it wisely when he said 'that drum riff will stick with you forever'...the guitar intro riff too. A kinda creepy intro verse. The lyrics however, are once again awesome...'It would be the perfect metaphor'.

Hey That Is A Really Good Review Man
I Totally Agree
|
| |
Thank you GoM, you did them justice. If i wasnt so lazy i'd review their other 2 cd's
|
| |
Yeah, I have to say the review didn't quite do the album justice.
In my opinion, "The Shape of Punk to Come" is one of the greatest albums of all time...by anyone, in any genre. Mind you: I don't listen to hardcore. In fact, Refused was pretty much the only hardcore act I could ever get into. That album is pure genius, though.

Yeah, I heard alot about this album like it's one of the best hardcore/hardcore punk albums of all time and I had hear the song Coup D'Etat which I really liked. I picked up the CD but it didn't really live up to my expectations. I just can't seem to get into any of the tracks.

A good album. Lives up to its title.
a sidenote:
the title for the song(s) Worms Of The Senses / Faculties Of The Skull is actually an allusion to the poem "Howl" by Allen Ginsberg. Pretty interesting, I think.

 I thought I posted in this thread.
This is such an amazing CD, definitely one of my all time favorites.
Refused were awesome. Why did they have to break up?! :upset:
Because they were "unable to reconcile their anarchist leanings with a career in music."
What an amazing record to end on though.

I'd hope so. That's my favourite song by them....download and buy anything you can by them.

My favourite album. :thumb:

Tannhauser/Derive is one of my favourite songs ever.
i actually stumbled across New Noise by looking for a lostprophets song on kazaa a few years ago, and someone had named the song Lostprophets - New Noise. i knew it wasn't them, but i didn't know who it was. for a year or two i never knew who had made the song, but i loved it, then i saw it on MTV2 a year ago i think, and i got the album that day.

am I the only one who noticed that they spelt 'rhythm' wrong on the back of the cd case? it said 'rythm' on mine i think. not so clever now are we Refused?

Dude they're Swedish. Don't expect immaculate spelling. Also it may be one of those things like how the British spell color or favorite as colour and favourite.
