Haling from Australia, Jet came and became the critics’ darlings. Are You Gonna Be My Girl was constantly chosen for airplay and JET was nominated for a number of Grammy’s. People were calling it the biggest thing out of Australia since AC/DC. It sold numerous copies and was the "essential" buy for the rock fan. It puzzles me though why it got all this attention and respect. There is nothing original or new here. There pretty much an AC/DC, Beatle, and Rolling Stone clone, except a lot worse than the bands mentioned.

The lack of new ideas is ever apparent on here. They do Beatle covers (Look What You've Done ), AC/DC style rock, (Cold Hard Bitch ), and Rolling Stone copies (Get Me Outta Here). They can't even seem to write riffs that different from another one. Rollover D.J. and Get What You Need sound the exact same. A tribute sort of band can only go so far. The Darkness and Tenacious D can only be liked to some extent. Jet just butchers the Beatles and Rolling Stones. Timothy is a try at a Beatle like tune. It's quite un-listenable. Look What You've Done is another try at the Beatles. It's a cover of Sexy Sadie, with a different title. This is the best song on the album, but it is nothing above average.

The whole album is a mediocre effort. The guitar riffs are lazy and the vocals aren't very good. The songwriting is boring and way to slow. Cold Hard Bitch is pretty much a What Do You Do For Money Honey. While What Do You Do... is bad song to begin with, it shines in comparison to this song. Cold Hard Bitch just drags and drags. It's just so slow and boring. Are You Gonna Be My Girl is something we have all heard before a thousand times in different variations. Move On is just a dull acoustic song that just drags and drags. Lazy Gun and Look What You've Done are the only two exceptional songs, but I could always listen to the Beatles if I wanted those types of songs.

Don't believe the critic's. This album is a dull visit to the past. Are You Gonna Be My Girl sums up the quality of this album. There is nothing new here and the there is a huge lack of creativity. I suggest picking up some Beatles and Rolling Stones albums if you've like what you've heard from the album. Other than that there is nothing to recommended here. Hopefully next time JET can stop the identity theft and be original.

I like the album, but I do believe that it is nothing above average. Good review though.

This probably the worst money I spent on a CD in the past year

Who cares if it sounds like a lot of other stuff? Is it good to listen to? Personally, I think that's what you should be judging it on.

I mentioned that while they sounded like them, they did it terribly

It's not good to listen to for the very reason that it sounds so much like everything else. Why would I enjoy listening to these inferior clones of good songs? I value creativity over everything else in music, unless it just plain "rocks," but this is not the case with Jet.

Well I guess it depends whether you value creativity or stuff that's nice to listen to. I'm not saying this is an amazing album, but I don't think the clone-so-this-sucks label is fair

I agree with mx, I actually thought that this was a pretty decent album, while not anything especially exhilerating. Also agreeing with mx, the "clone-so-this-sucks" label is, to be honest, unfair and rather blind. Think about how many other bands out there sound like the Stones, or the Beatles and such, I'd say, what, about 40%? And you should have included at least SOME review of whatthe CD was like to listen to, not "they sound kinda like the stones and the beatles, but not quite, coz they suck a bit. don't buy this cd, because it isn't beatles or stones."

No, I don't think that 40% of bands sound like Stones or the Beatles. Many bands have drawn influence from them, but that's completely different than ripping them off entirely, as Jet have done.

Jet is a terrible band. They should either call themselves a cover band or get sued for copyright infringement.

So I suppose that bands such as Taking Back Sunday, Thrice, Thursday, My Chemical Romance, etc should all be sued as well for ripping each other off.

I wouldn't miss 'em ;)

No really, there's a difference between playing within a similar musical style and using the exact same notes as another song which has already been released. John Fogarty was actually sued because some of his solo material sounded similar to a CCR song, but he successfully defended himself in court by playing the songs himself and making distinctions between them. If Jet could do that, I would be impressed. But if their stage presence is any indication, they would just bore the court to tears.

Look I didn't think about going into enough detail about why they were bad. Since I dislike Ac/Dc and the Rolling Stones it didn't occure to me to go into it more and I was sort of rushing the review. I'm trying my best not to do "clone=Suck" but this album is pretty mediocre and copies bands I don't like to begin with. I will edit this and try to emphasis why it's bad a little more.

This is one of the worst bands ever right now not just because of the un-originality of it, but because for me it is forced listening to the max.

Jet isn't very good. I have heard this album once and thought that it was just crappy. It's good for backround music, but that's about it.

they actually sound more like a 70s or 60s band which is good today in the world of generic bands that mostly sound the same

yeah thats because they have copied a 60s or 70s band
not because they are trying to be a bit different just dumb

Couple of good tracks on here nothing much... I do agree with you. They stole look what you've done from the Beatle track Sexy Sadie. But, still, some of the songs are nice. And, for wasting your money on this, that's why I use the library.

And anyways, their singer and lead (don't know his name) said in an interview that they were "influenced" by the Beatles. That they're trying to bring that old sixties "Beatle" and "Rolling Stone" "sound" alive again. Bunch of crap. More like copied that got influenced.
