Ahh, the Dead Kennedys...
One of the greatest punk bands of all time release their last live concert on a special collecters cd. The band unfortunatley had to break up due to the "dick-move" by Klaus, D.H, and East Bay Ray. That dick-move was putting a poster called "Penis Landscape" in their original Frankenchrist. Right after they exploited Jello for all he's worth, they released this album (IMO, in hopes to make more $moolah$). I know what you're thinking... Music for money! That is soooo not punk! Sadly, American currency in the number one source of evil next to Little Debbies which leads to gluttony (effing 20 cakes for a dollar, how does the bitch do it!) Now as I tread off topic, lets get back on track. This album is a pretty cool edition to any collecters stash. Might I mention that the song choices are excellent...
Mutiny On The Bay begins with an introduction which explains the purpose of the concert. After that's over with you get tossed into the unreleased song by DK. Might I mention that it is amazing. It's called
Police Truck and it owns. The delayed guitar to start the song sets the tone correctly for the rest. The song is all about how the police will just go out on a night of fun. This 'fun' is usually involved with ruthless/random beatings, drinking, and raping women for the heck of it. The song is very fast paced and fits well with the rest of the songs on the album. After that chaos, another unreleased song kicks in.
Too Drunk To *** is the other unreleased track and it's a cover of the classic "Circle Jerks" song.
As I mentioned before, the song selection is very well thought out. They took some of their biggest hits, (hits?), and some of their more 'underground' songs. One of the greatest things about this cd is how the songs vary by album. There's four from
Frankenchrist, four from
Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, and three from
Plastic Surgery Disasters. Plus the two unreleased ones.
The better songs on the album include... Holiday In Cambodia, Police Truck, MTV- Get Off The Air, and California Uber Allies.
The un-needed tracks would include... I Am The Owl, and Goons Of Hazzard.
In conclusion, this is a nice little album that is good for any Dead Kennedys fan out there. This is also a great album for anyone that loves punk rock from the 80's. Plus, for anyone that is trying to get into DK this would be a great cd to check out.
