Review Summary: Ew…this tastes bad…who threw a pinch of rap into the bubbling cauldron of pop and R&B? Drake, or, more fittingly, Aubrey, is a Canadian rapper from Toronto. With So Far Gone, Drake -- er, Aubrey, shows us why he should have stuck to acting in melodramatic shows featuring college kids playing highschoolers. The mixture of pop, R&B, and a pinch of rap, while a good combination to make money, get the honeys, and get famous, is NOT a good combination when it comes to quality.
While Drake should be credited with knowledge of the market, it doesn’t get him many points. More often than not, Drake exhibits bland lyrics in either the “for the ladies” format or “my life is great format,” with little to no sprucing, serving them cold and bluntly on a platter of R&B/pop beats full of emphasized bouncy synths, claps, and subtle bass and drums to compliment. Throw in a vocoder that results in half-singing, half-rapping and it gets even uglier. However, Drake can contribute a decent line (“Black suburban with the tint on it/Fresher than a pillow with a mint on it”) every now and then, proving he has potential to be a solid lyricist. But he fails to capitalize on it 95% of the time, resulting in a terrible “rap album.”
Usually one goes from great rapper to bad actor (Ice-T, Ice Cube, I’m staring you down), but in Drake’s case, he goes from bad actor to bad rapper. But he retains the trend of entertaining females and youngsters, that’s for sure.

I'm gonna listen to see what all the fuss is about.

| | | Say What's Real and Little Bit are both fantastic songs. This review is a bit weird, it seems like you just described the genre of mainstream rap music and that was your argument as to why this album is bad. I'd agree but that's not very objective, ya know?
| | | Hey now, Detective Tutuola is awesome, don't hate :P
I enjoy some cuts on this, but ultimately it's forgettable. Agreed with the decent line comment.
| | | Hmmmmmm........ to make money, get the honeys, and get famous or............ make intelligent, underground music respected by online zines and it's community of dolts.
Oh, decisions decisions desicions. For the record i'd go with option A.

"Hmmmmmm........ to make money, get the honeys, and get famous or............ make intelligent, underground music respected by online zines and it's community of dolts."
It all depends on what you want out of music, money or innovation, rarely do you get both. Now would you consider yourself a member of one of those online zines and their community?
Also this is asinine, dude, seriously, a 1? Really? You justify it with nothing besides, 'he makes music for girls/money and I think he's bad.' This is one of the worst records you've ever heard -- REALLY?
