The Ramones are without a doubt one of the most influential punk rock groups to have ever existed and have influenced countless bands subsequently. This album captured quite a large following.
Ramones is quick and fast and gets straight to the point. It is probably the one of the rawest albums I've ever listened to. The production of it is extremly primitive and simple, guitar in one speaker and bass in the other, which may not appeal to people who desire a much cleaner production.
The duration of the songs' on the album last no longer than a little over 2 minutes. This makes Ramones flow seamlessly from one song to the next and you could listen to the album in a very short space of time. Same usually applies to many other early Ramones releases as well.
In my opinion, this is probably where the Ramones were at their peak, along with Leave Home and Rocket to Russia as well. But this album especially produced a lot of classic fan favourites instantly. "Blitzkrieg Bop", "Judy is a Punk" are brilliant examples of this. "Blitzkreig Bop" particulary is considering a "punk anthem".
Now whilst this album is full of positive that one could write as big as the Bible, it does however, contain its negatives which is what prompted me not to give it a full, classic rating.
Ramones throughout has got one problem : Repetition. Lyrically and musically. The intros' to "Blitzkrieg Bop" and "Loudmouth" sound almost identical, also "I wanna be your Boyfriend" isn't my favourite track either, although others will most likely beg to differ on that part. Also repeating "Beat on the brat, beat on the brat!" can be become somewhat tiresome.
Despite this, Ramones has had a lot of longevity and he has been a classic for over 30 years and will be remembered for decades to come. It is a brilliant album, but like with most albums, it isn't without it's flaws of course.
Still highly recommened by all means though.
