First of all, let me just say that this is my first review & if uts crap, forgive me cuz i'm only 12 years old.
Anyway, I am a massive Powderfinger fan, & when this album came out I was really happy, because it is a Aussie Music Classic. Better than Frogstomp or Get Born. It has brilliant Powderfinger song after brilliant Powderfinger song. With classics like Rockin' Rocks, Love Your Way & Pockets, I suggest this album to anyone who is interested in rock music altogether.
It is a heavier sound than Oddyssey Number 5 & a much different album.
And now, for the review:
1. Rockin' Rocks - This song is a fantastic opening song for the album, beggining with a great riff with Bernard Fannings childish voice over the top. Then the 2nd guitar kicks in, with Jon Coghills frantic drumming. With a distorted guitar solo & mad drum fills in the middle, Rockin' Rocks is a fantastic head-banger. 5/5
2. (Baby I've Got You) On My Mind - The 1st single off Vulture Street is a great song with an extremely catchy feel to it. There is even more frantic Jon Coghill Drum fills. One of my favourite Powderfinger songs & one of the best on the album. 5/5
3. Since You've Been Gone - This song has a more bluesy feel to it than most of the album. It kicks off with a great intro on guitar, then the tempo gets slower. As i said, it is more bluesy, & Bernard Fannings Voice fits the song brilliantly, with his catchy "Aggh, Aggh, Aggh, Aggh" in the bridge. Another great Powderfinger song, off another great Powderfinger Album. 4.5/5
4. Love Your Way - For the first time on Vulture Street, the amps are turned down, well at least for the acoustic guitar intro. Then it's back into the usual Powderfinger routine of Catchy lyrics & even catchier riffs. The Best song on the album, along with Pockets. 5/5
5. Sunsets - Not one of my favourites, but still a great song. Bernard's agressive lyrics, "Maybe I Should Have Followed You & Beat Down Your Door," are good though. It's just that this song isn't as good as Powderfinger can achieve. I quite like the rythym section & the last part is pretty catchy. 3.5/5
6. Don't Panic - This song sounds a lot like Double Allergic era, it's pretty good actually. The guitar in the middle part sounds kind of 80's like. The drum beat is pretty simple but effective. 4/5
7. Stumblin' - A Powderfinger classic. There's a great drum intro by Jon Coghill. Bernard's Voice sounds really different at the start, but then gets more normal. Darren Middleton has a great guitar solo. I especially like the part were it's just the bass playing. 5/5
8. Roll Right By You - Like Since You've Been Gone, this song is more bluesy. It's better than Sunsets, but not as good as Love Your Way. The drumming, once again, is simple but effective. Another nice solo by Darren Middleton. 4/5.
9. How Far Have We Really Come? - The only song on the album that can be classified a ballad. This song is beautiful & moving, like a hymn. Bernard's voice is brilliant. This would fit in well with Oddyssey Number 5. It is one of the most beautiful songs i have ever heard. 5/5
10. Pockets - Another beautiful song. The first half of this song is played with just guitar & vocals with a weird effect on it. But then the heavier side of this song kicks in. A fantastic song, and along with Love Your Way, is my favourite song on the album. 5/5
11. A Song Called Everything - Not a fantastic way to end a fantastic album, but it's still quite nice. I usually skip past it when i play the album. The chorous is good though. 3.5/5
& that's Vulture Street. It is one of my favourites, & as i said before, it's an Oz Music classic. Anyone should like this record.
4.5/5
