This EP is brilliant, like most of Conor's other EPs/LPs. Although its your best bet to check out his LPs his EPs can blow you away.
Ok, here's a breakdown...

1.Going for the Gold
An amazing song with just Conor and his acoustic. He talks about pain, commiting a crime, and leaving. The guitar part has a nice move and Conor's voice sounds perfect. 5/5

2.Oh, You Are The Roots...
A very good song. The first to feature drums etc. Lyrics are good...voice is good...song slowly dies down to very soft the Conor say "Well are you?" and the energy picks up to Conor singing some of the previously heard lines in the song. 4.5/5

3.I Won't Ever Be Happy Again
This song is very good. It features an acoustic, and a clarinet. It sounds recorded live, or maybe just a rough recording. The clarinet player hits some sour notes but it all fits with the song. 4/5

4.No Lies, Just Love
The best song on the cd...Hands down...It has a slow piano part and Conor touches on some "problems" he's had and growing up etc. It eventually comes down to him talking about his brother having his first child and how he's gonna change "So when your new eyes meet mine, they won't see no lies, Just love" Then Conor shows an amazing vocal ability by singing "Like Snow, Like Gold" in a voice I had never previously heard from him. 5/5

5.Kathy With A K's Song
Conor sounds amazing on this song, yet a little drunk. The beginning few minutes are just him singing about how "Love is real" Then he says "Oh my darling when you smile it is like a song, and I can hear it now" Then drums and other instruments/noises come in. The remainder of the song is just that but with Conor singing/slightly screaming "I Can hear it now" 5/5

6.Mirrors and Fevers
The last song on the EP, You hear a bunch of crowd noise for about a minute. Then Conor comes in talking/singing about a dream he had. This song has no instruments. (It's kinda hard to rate) 5/5

Stand Out Tracks:
No Lies, Just Love (the best track in my opinion)
Going for the Gold
Kathy With A "K"s Song

The EP is awesome...see if you can pick it up if you have a few extra bucks, or any other Bright Eyes work.

A bit more caution before you submit a review. This was submitted as artist 'Other'. Please have a better look next time. I already edited that for you, and added the cover.

Anyways, nice review, not bad. :thumb:

Pretty bare bones review, but good none the less. Since it's a first I'll give you a pos. I have come to enjoy Bright Eyes, but I have never listened to much of the earlier stuff. I'm gonna watch the Saddle Creek DVD, then check out some of it.

Once again, nice work. Could use an album title though.
