Release Date: 1992 | Tracklist

The Band:
Scott Weiland - Vocals
Robert DeLeo - Bass
Dean DeLeo - Guitars
Eric Kretz - Drums

This is Stone Temple Pilots debut album in 1992. This album was critisised by many medias of ripping off the likes of Pearl Jam. But this album still sold many millions. This album helped this band win Best Rock Act in 1993. This album has got 8x platinum sold so it has sold quite a numerous amount.

--- Review: ---

Track 1: Dead & Bloated = 5:10

This is a beast! Scott Weilands vocals are superior on this song. When he opens the song with the line 'I am smellin' like the rose that somebody gave me on my birthday deathbed', you can predict that this song is gonna be quite heavy. After this line, the music comes in with rage. The verses and chorus are exceptional and this song is a great opener for an album.

Review: 5/5

Track 2: Sex Type Thing = 3:35

Now this song is even better than the first! And I gave the first 5/5!
This song is genius. The guitar riffs are amazing by putting in natural harmonics in to put a spine-tingling touch to the eerie song. The song is not very controversal even though the title shows it, it is a very well thought through song and one of the best STP songs ever. Every Element of this song is perfect. Amazing song.

Review: 5/5

Track 3: Wicked Garden = 4:05

The opening is welcomed by the guitar creating some crunchy chords and drums are full of fills that are fast. This song is more Rock then Grunge really. The chorus is suprisingly heart warming compared to the high voltage verses that crunch your ears, the chorus consists of vocals that sounds smooth over some slight overdriven guitaring. The vocals are very good so overall it is an excellent song.

Review: 4/5

Track 4: No Memory = 1:19

This is not a song. Its just an intro to Sin. Just guitaring that is slow with emotion building the climax to Sin.

Track 5: Sin = 6:05

This song tends to drag along a bit with its repetitive guitaring and drumming but this is still a very good song. Lots of chorus effects is used here on the guitar to give a sinful approach. The atmosphere trying to create is an evil and unpleasent feeling, it does work hence the music creating it. Vocals are always good and there is a good guitar solo at the end so it is a good song.

Review: 4/5

Track 6: Naked Sunday = 3:55

This is a catchy song. The guitars 'wah-wah' is effective along with the drumming which is very good. Catchy beats on percussion and certainly breaks down the climax given by Sin earlier on, it also destroys the unpleasent atmosphere to a more upbeat style. Vocals is catchy as well. This is the most lively song on the album.

Review: 4.5/5

Track 7: Creep = 5:30

This the slowest song on the album. It is one of the best as well. This seems to be similar to Nirvana's style of singing and the music is exceptional. Due to the similar style of Nirvana, I think this song represents the critical complaints of the media of STP being rip offs of other grunge bands. Absolutely fantastic song if you like the occasional slow songs.

Review: 5/5

Track 8: Piece of Pie = 5:22

Back to the rock side of the album. This song has its moments with the vocals being excellent as it always is. Piece of Pie is a powerful song in percussion wise as the drums here is frantic, guitaring is also crazy as well. Mind you there isnt nothing special with the song. But still good anyway.

Review: 4/5

Track 9: Plush = 5:08

Now this is the song that made them famous. This the best ever rock song ever in my opinion! Everything about this song is perfect, guitars with its 'chorus' effect, the bass line just moves the song along, the drums just fits perfectly into the song and the vocals, wow, just the best i've heard.

Review: 5/5

Track 10: Wet My Bed = 1:35

This is not a song again. This is kinda of a mess up song with Scott talking about a load of crap. No meaning.

Track 11: Crackerman = 3:12

This song is another catchy song with its catchy riffs and basic but effective drumming. This song has the same logic as Sex Type Thing, maybe it is way too similar but this song is still exceptional. A song that makes your head bang up and down frantically. Lyrics are random but still good, fits with vocals.
Excellent song.

Review: 5/5

Track 12: Where the River Goes = 8:20

This the final song of the album. This song drags as well but this is boring at times. The song is too repetitive and doesn't fit in the league of the other songs. The construction of the song is very simple. The annoying repetition really gets on your nerves and makes you want to stop listening to the track which is a shame as the whole album is kinda spoiled by this. The 2 solos near the end are good and the vocals are all right but thats it. Not very impressive but its just over average.

Review: 3.5/5

Overall this album is a jem. Every Rock fan must get this album or there collection will not be completed. You must buy at any price, its worth every penny. This album has had a lot of good feedback except from the ripping off that the media holds on them but don't pay attention to it.

OVERALL: 5/5

I love this album so much! The whole album is amazing. I especially like "Dead & Bloated," "Wicked Garden," and "Where The River Goes." "Crackerman" contains one of the best lyrics ever: "He's a man, he's a man, like a man, like a man he was a woman too." Overall, a totally awesome album.

I have edited this review by a lot as this was my first review ages ago. I added more stuff as when I looked at it, I thought it wasn't enough info.

STP rocks!! Probably the only thing I didn't agree with was I think Dead and Bloated is better than Sex Type Thing. Just my own opinion. Oh, and Crackerman, also IMO, is the best STP song ever.

Great review, just as good as your purple review. The only thing I found wrong is that I would have given Wicked Garden a 5/5.

good album, but I think you've over-rated it a wee bit. Some really great solid rock songs but only really amazes me on 2 tracks 'Plush' and 'Creep'.

^because thats what the reviewer put (even though it is stated in the review the real date which is odd). It should be changed to 1992 though.

I'm glad they improved after this one because this is somewhat dire. Not a great effort, first or otherwise. Nothing really memorable here. Just sounds like a band that's riding the new wave in. Bleh. I think they became much more focused, direct, and defined after this record. But this is just off the shelf, paint by numbers crap. This Message Edited On 04.20.06
