In 1999 Children of Bodom held a concert in Tokyo, Japan. It was later released as a DVD and CD. This is a review of the CD not the DVD.
The album features many songs off of the Hatebreeder album, simply because the album was recently released at the time of the concert. Hatebreeder was a great album though, so who realy cares?
Track 1- Intro (1:25)
A nice little classical sounding song, at the end the band takes the stage and you can hear the crowd go nuts.
Track 2- Silent Night, Bodom Night (3:23)
A great song. They did a great job doing it live too. One of my favourites on this show, really a great way to open an album.
5/5
Track 3- Lake Bodom (4:08)
Another classic from Hatebreeder, great song and Alexi sounds dead on with his vocals and guitar work.
4/5
Track 4- Warheart (4:07)
One of my favourite songs by this band overall. I love the crunching bassline in the intro. Which is very audible in this live version, which just adds to my love for it. The song sounds just amazing.
5/5
Track 5- Bed of Razors (4:35)
The intro in this always sends a chill down my spine. If any other band tried to pull this off I'd probably pass it off as crap, but these guys are just amazing. The song itself is amazing, when you hear them play the song after the weird intro thing the crowd goes nuts and it just makes you wanna be there.
4.5/5
Track 6- War of Razors (2:12)
Listening to Alexi Laiho play guitar is just awe inspiring. He's not the best guitarist out there, but he's so goddamn melodic is just awesome. The whole song is him having a guitar solo battle alongside former member Alexander. Very cool.
4/5
Track 7- Deadnight Warrior (3:31)
Starts off with a nice drum solo and the crown goin along with it. Then cuts into the song, and again the crowd goes insane. Really makes me wanna go see them again, just amazing song.
4.5/5
Track 8- Hatebreeder (4:30)
This song is awesome, sounds better live than it does on the studio album. Everything is just dead on with this song, I always love listening to the synthesizer playing along with the guitars.
5/5
Track 9- Touch like Angel of Death (5:53)
A great classical little doodle, then the rest of the band kicks in and plays along with it. Always great to see how the guys incorporate classical music into theirs.
4.5/5
Track 10- Downfall (4:47)
The intro to this always did throw me off, kinda weird. But once it gets started there's no letting off. These guys are relentless, and they know it. The song sounds amazing.
4/5
Track 11- Towards Dead End (6:12)
Sadly, the last song. Its saddening listening to how upset the crowd gets when Alexi announces it too. However, at least they get a great song to end on. The song sounds exact, if not better than the studio album did. Just fantastic.
5/5
Overall amazing live album. I hold it high in my collection among Live Sh*t: Binge and Purge. If you're a fan of the band, pick it up. I give it a perfect 5/5.
