I am not impressed with the first 4 songs. The middle of the album is much better with a run of very solid to great songs. Long Time and I Walk a Line stood out to me as the strongest of that section. Normal is a good live song, but seems gratuitous on an album for some reason. I Call Your Name stood out to me as unique in their catalogue as a Toadies take on ZZ Top or something close to that. The rest of the album was ok. This is not peak Toadies, and I don't think anyone expects that anymore. But it is a solid album from an aging band without quite as much passion or energy as they used to have. They are still very good live.

| 4.0 excellent | Antonius | May 18th 26 | Almost ten years after their latest album, the Toadies return with a solid release in which punk-rock energy is paired with classic-rock riffs. I am not very familiar with the group and its music legacy, but The Charmer is a vibrant release with many hooks and a nostalgic feel from the 90s alternative era. As this was recorded live at the studio with minimal overdubs, it sounds very alive and spontaneous. Tony recommends: "The Charmer", "Come to Life", "Ash's Theme", "I Wanted to Be Everywhere", "I Walk a Line", "Closer to You".
