| 3.5 great | yeehaw or some shit | April 11th 26 | The albums perfect, so Im just rating the second disc. First, the remixes. Big mixed bag. The Gloom remix (which feels
more like a cover) of Rapture is absolutely beautiful and captures the spirit of the song perfectly. Jeremy is, well,
Jeremy, but the female backing vocals add an eerie beauty to it. Incredible cover and will definitely have me checking
out Wisp. Benediction and Palm Dreams have an electronic flair to them and are fine. I dig Benediction quite a bit, theres
little bits of the original in there that didnt make it feel completely different, but Cody Votolato makes it his own,
meanwhile Palm Dreams feels so foreign to the original track aside from the chopped and screwed vocals. Finally,
Skyscraper, which is handled by Kerry McCoy of Deafheaven. Its incredible. Not quite in the same league as Rapture but
still damn good in its own right. The rest are demos (and one live recording), which for the most part are very solid The
standouts here are Displacement, which at a few points almost feels like a completely different song, and Water
Damage, which is definitely more uptempo than its finished counterpart giving it a sense of urgency that isnt nearly as
present on the original track. The rest are about what youd expect from a bunch of demos. Solid listen but Im very glad I
didnt dish out 80 bucks for the 4 disc LP despite how cool the packaging looks. Totally worth a listen but not worth a
buy unless you are a serious collector. Not gonna lie, when that Gloom Rapture cover dropped, I had really hoped we
were getting a bunch of remixes in the same vein, so this is slightly disappointing for me considering how much I adore
that version of Rapture and the original album.
