Van Etten surrounds herself with a full band to elevate her recent synthpop adventures to higher grounds - and it doesn't always succeed, but it ain't a failure. Most of this is a slick, new, wavey synthpop that really gets it going when a post-punky background supports it. Otherwise, it's always fine.
