This band got inexplicably huge for a bm act in this day and age, and I am still rather confused as to how and why, as their music continues to be mostly basic and unexciting straightforwardness with mix that makes the chunk of the album sound too grainy or hushed to really discern. It is a very standard bm release, slide riffs and bare bones blast beats and all that, that would have normally barely got much attention outside its circles.

This has some nice touches: The choirs and a increased focus on melodic elements contribute some neat moments.However, The utter lack of interest counteracts this quite expertly. This was a chore to get through, and I have been asking myself numerous times: "why am i listening to this?". Mirage showed that this band can do so, so much more.

This is the quintessential 3.5 band. Quite competent, always very good and a nice listen. But always missing the extra spark or pizzazz or whatever to get over the hump of being great.
