Review Summary: Selected tunes from their discography, done with grace. For fans and casual listeners alike.

Deconstructed is 10 Years’ obligatory stripped back album. It includes songs from their entire discography, beefy riffs are no longer, and the only remaining percussion is a lightly used kick pedal for the most basic of beats. There’s also a little synth work in a few tracks that don’t add much, but it suits the album’s sound. Overall, the arrangement is piano with quiet, spacey guitars swirled together. The glossy soundscape has an understated but dark sheen perfect for the laid back, harmony stuffed tunes that fill Deconstructed. These tunes may be deconstructed, but they are just as enjoyable.

It’s no surprise that the mood masters manage many magical melodies methodically. In fact, multitudes of 10 Years’ tunes were laced with splendiferous harmonies from the get-go. Lucky You is an excellent choice for Deconstructed, originally a lovely heartfelt song; without a slapped snare and dirty, buzz guitars the song is free to explore its beauty further. Then there’s the song Survivors, which may be an obvious choice for those acquainted with the original; the harmonies stand out in particular, when compared to other 10 Years tracks, they are prolific and tastefully crafted!

You’ll find the selected tracks are generally choice. However, Knives has far too much testosterone for the pastel Deconstructed shade. No matter! 10 Years breathe new lives into their old tracks as though brand new tracks. The recording quality is great, and Jesse’s vocals sound just as nice without snare and heavier riffs accompanying. It almost feels like tracks were meant to be like this originally, but due to the algorithm/fanbase needs louder guitars were a must. It is no longer necessary, so sit down with a cozy tea and enjoy these chill 10 Years tunes.

are you sure you didn't rush this one out? No recipes or anything? I feel like you missed an opportunity for a deconstructed sandwich riff. +7 points for alliteration in the second paragraph. Yeah, Knives was kind of a spicy choice to deconstruct. Tbh, this album kind of gives me some cognitive dissonance because I’m just not fully sure how they pulled this off. I feel like re-interpreting 20 songs in a setting like this without phoning it in is pretty damn impressive. The first half is a lot stronger than the second half, probably due to song choices. Patiently is definitely the album highlight for me.

Haha I’m trying to streamline my goofiness if that makes any sense. Them not phoning this album in also impressed me. This could’ve been an easily forgotten album instead it’s a hidden gem. :]
