0.0 | Red D | November 18th 20 | Kylie Minogue is still going on strong more than 30 years after her debut, giving us a polished, flirtatious record whose primary goal is escapism. As announced by its title, the album?s focus is on disco, and it takes its direction very seriously - it rarely departs from heavy doses of disco in each of its tracks - never going the electro / EDM route (which I am thankful for). Kylie has said that she had to keep her collaborators on brand, sending them influences she wanted in there and telling them to get with the program when they veered too far away from the desired universe.rDISCO is about optimism, unity, the universal and it?s often cheesy, obvious and showy - none of which are necessarily negatives in my book. In many ways it feels like a return to basics with a twist, the album resembles Light Years and Fevers much more than her more recent endeavors although there are still significant departures from the two. Kylie was also adamant on this new record not sounding like a ?tribute? and she succeeded most of the time.rSide by side with this year?s crop of high-profile dance pop records (Lady Gaga, Jessie Ware, Dula Peep, Katy Perry, Carly Rae Jepsen, Ava Max, Ellie Goulding, Meghan Trainor...), its singles stand out as some of the best songs of the genre in 2020 but the LP as a whole - while on the better end of the spectrum - is not one one of this year?s highlights by any means.

4.0 excellent | ajcollins15 | November 9th 20 | Not sure why 2020 turned out to be the year of industrial music and nu-disco. But damn has there been some amazing nu-disco albums, and this is another stellar addition to that lineup of Jessy Ware and Dua Lipa. So many memorable and danceable electropop, synthpop, and nu-disco tracks that it is hard not to have a smile on your face while listening to this album. What?s even more amazing is that it comes from Kylie?s best album in over two decades, if not even three decades. The biggest downfall is ?Say Something? and ?Celebrate You? are strong lulls in the tracklisting, but still such a strong album!
