3.5 great | hillbillyag | January 8th 22 | I was at the recording of this live CD. They were great as always. This is a truly great
live band. They have settled into more of a traditional Texas rock band over time. A
little more heavily influenced by ZZ Top than the Pixies/grunge sound of their early days.
They recorded a few of these more than once and repeated some at the end to make sure they
got it right. I can honestly say that I think they went with their first take on most if
not all of the recordings. They are really tight as a band. You can tell that they spend
lots of time together.
They played most of their popular songs, although they were lighter on Rubberneck than
usual. I would have preferred a few songs off of Hell Below/Stars Above as well. They did
a strong cover of I Put a Spell on You. This was a good overall mix from all of their
albums.
Todd's voice is still very strong and he can hit most of the notes with his famous growly
scream. He knows the ones that he can't and modulates his tone to compensate very well.
Overall, this is a strong performance from a later in career Toadies.
