0.0 | Arche | January 7th 16 | Hyperion continues Krallice's journey into experimental black metal in a stunning 3 track EP. Through never doing quite what would be expected, be it with a seemingly misplaced cymbal or a peculiar direction of the guitar lines, this is an engaging listen with more than enough to keep going back to. Closer 'Assuming Memory' is absolutely spectacular - https://krallice.bandcamp.com/album/hyperion

2.8 good | Erwann S. STAFF | August 26th 22 | Another Marston-labeled riff salad that, while povnding and whatnot, never goes beyond "over-the-top riffz being played to death". The breakdown and subsequent military drumlines on "The Guilt of Time" constitute a breath of fresh air within the EP, as well as the crescendo-ing intro on "Assuming Memory", but these moments are exceptional - in that they are a rarity.

3.5 great | Alabaster Jones | February 25th 16 | If you didn't like Krallice before, consider this soundoff over, because your opinion won't be changed by this EP. For those that are initiated into the Krallice sound and find it enjoyable, and those that might be looking to test their strange waters, Hyperion is a very nice offering. Recorded in between 2012's Years Past Matter and 2015's Ygg Huur, Hyperiom establishes a songwriting link between those two albums. Of course, the base sound is still the same as all Krallice records: unworldly technical tremolo riffs, audible bass providing support, near omnipresent, steadying drumming, and mid-ranged vocal wails. However, the use of synths on the closer of the EP and the absolute madness that is the middle of "The Guilt Of Time" really make some great moments. Overall, these workhorses of black metal with literally no conventions come through with another good project, this time in under a half an hour.

3.5 great | TheManMachine | January 28th 16 | Scuzz-prog gurus ring in the New Year with an EP recorded 30 months prior that is not only more pronounceable than 2015's Ygg Huur, but more pronounced as well -- a comparable lack of superfluous meandering makes 'em more graspable; and no that's not a bad thing, especially not if they're cranking the anguished-black-metal-brutality knob up a notch in return. Other preferable perks include riffs you can dive into, feedback-wash standstills and, sure, the brevity too.
