Carissa's Wierd Ugly But Honest: 1996-1999
Carissa's Wierd They'll Only Miss You When...: Songs 1996-2003
Well, I gave a compilation album a 5-star rating. Normally this wouldn't be justified
because well this compilation album just takes the best songs from several other albums and
puts it all together. The members of Carissa's Wierd were faultless, selecting all the fans'
favourites and adding up to 16 songs. rThough I haven't got this album in my library, I have
all the other records which the songs are taken from.rFor people who want to explore the
beauty that is CW but need to be eased into the quite lengthy tracks this is a perfect place
to start.

Both of TWUB's fulll-lengths are a litany about life and death, connection and loss. With the latter ones always winning out. Shimmering bits of eternal hope only caress the dark void which keeps it locked in. As the paries get tested by radiance it's hard not to let a tear flow. For we know it is in vain but can't object. It is a sight to behold, proof that the course of the journey is worthwile, even when decay always wins out eventually.

This EP is almost perfect if not for Lucky Denver Mint. God, I hate that track... Together
with For Me This Is Heaven they represent the tracks that got leaped in with their following
LP Clarity. However, the tracks that didn't make it are worthy as well, if not more. The
demo of Your New Aesthetic leans more towards JEW's emo side. (Yes, they were very much emo
in the right definition of the genre before the new millennium) It's more heartfelt than the
Clarity version, whereas the other version features a more straightforward punk sound. Other
exclusive tracks are Softer, an upbeat gritty track that shows Jimmy in cynical way, and
Roller Queen. Now, let me tell you, this EP is worth getting for Roller Queen alone. It has
an almost ambient feel to it due to lots of feedback and a slow stretched song structure. We
hear Jim Adkins ponder about a lost love, it's hard not to get moved by it. It's unique in a
way that JEW never evoked that feeling to a song again after that. But it probably has a
whole lot to do with Adkins being the sole performer for vocals and instruments altogether.

I first listened through speakers one day, then twice in a row with headphones while reading rand walking through the house. As some sort of background music with flashes of brilliance rthis is perfect. However, while these flashes of brilliance do strike, there is too much rdroning going on. The drones are fascinating but last way too long so it seems this album rgoes nowhere. The album itself is way too long as well.rTherefore it was quite hard to rate rthis album, if you let your mind wander while listening to this it truly shines. But if you rpay close attention, there is just not enough going on.rRecommended tracks: Interstate Roads, rGary Webb, The Cursed Bell, John Carpenter, Lie ThererEdit 09/12/14: The fool above was a foolish fool.

Raw production makes for passionate sound. Shame these guys sort of vanished. This would've been a 4,5 if not for the superfluous U2 cover and the track 'as soon as beauty dies' which is just an alternative version of 'one life to live'.

Crazy indie rock tunes, guitar driven and with a female vocalist who seems to sing about everything in life in a lighthearted way. Sometimes she should do away the playfulness and use her voice in a more heartfelt way. That's the only thing that's keeping me from rating this 4 or higher.r
On The Might of Princes Sirens
'Where you are and where you want to be' was superb. It was soothing yet agressive. Emo at its best. This one however is a post-hardcore album that would be very good if I only had not experienced the first album.
