Astarte Doomed Dark Years
Doomed Dark Years is the best album by Astarte by far. Mostly all the albums after this they lost their Black Metal image and turned into a Kittie look-alike and picked up a strong Melodic Death Metal influence. On this album its pure Black Metal. When i first got this i didnt know that they were all females until i looked them up on here and saw the picture. This album is up there with some of the Black Metal classics like Transilvanian Hunger and In The Nightside Eclipse. There is also a Folk Metal influence on this album because they use some folk instruments. The vocals on this album are some of the best i've heard from a Black Metal band. Drums are simple, riffs arent technical, but it fits this style of music. If you want to look into this band, this would be the album to get, as its their only good album.

This EP picks up right where they left off on their self-titled debut. Excellent guitar work and the drumming is even better here than on the first album. This band is really making a name for themselves in the modern black metal scene. I highly, highly recommend this EP and their first full-length album.

Enslaved RIITIIR
As of right now, I'd say this would probably come after Vertebrae, Axioma Ethica Odini, and Below the Lights (in that order). Enslaved just never disappoints. Death in the Eyes of Dawn and Roots of the Mountain may very well be some of the best songs they've ever put out.

Hooded Menace Effigies of Evil
I changed my mind about what I said before. This gets better and better with each listen. Crumbling Insanity and Evoken Vulgarity are two of the best songs that they've ever done. Now I'd say this is probably a little better than Never Cross the Dead, but still not as good as Fulfill the Curse.

Peste Noire La Sanie des siecles - Panegyrique de la
Peste Noire L'Ordure a l'etat Pur
Been listening to this so much the past few days and definitely gonna say this is in the running for AOTY so far, along with Primordial. By far the "weirdest" Peste Noire album yet, but also one of the best. Not as great as La Sanie, but still worthy of a 4.5.

As a Primordial fanboy, I must say that I'm extremely pleased with this. Won't end up being as good as the 2 albums that came before this, but that really doesn't mean anything considering all Primordial is great in some way. Just happy I wasn't let down by this like I was last year with Agalloch.

Raekwon Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang
Alright the beginning of this album got a hell of a lot better with repeated listens. The beats sound a lot better than they did on the first listen. Still think the middle/latter part of the album is better than the beginning, but the fact that the beginning sounds so much better than it originally did makes the rating go way up. Rae is obviously still at the top of his game as well as Meth, Ghost, and Inspectah Deck. Even the non-Wu affiliated artists all make a positive impact on the album. The highlight of the album for me has to be Rock'N'Roll. rFuck it, this is the best Rae album. Yes, it even passes up part 1 and 2 of OB4CL and one of the best Wu releases in general. Wouldn't put it up with Enter the Wu-Tang or Liquid Swords yet, but it's definitely right under those. I'm in the same boat as Inveigh, I don't wanna listen to anything else right now. I know it's early, but this is probably gonna be my album of the year. Can't see anything beating it right now.

This is one of the best black metal albums I've heard in a really long time. Walknut is probably the best atmospheric black metal band that I've heard. Other atmospheric black metal bands like Summoning are a lot more well known than this band and I can't see why. This album slays anything that I've ever heard from Summoning. Don't expect any melodic shit from this album either. This is cold, hateful black metal. Can't wait to see what this band does in the future.

Wolves in the Throne Room Black Cascade
And to think that I used to hate this band. Wolves in the Throne Room have further solidified their place as one of the best bands black metal has to offer with Black Cascade. They go for more of a straight black metal album with Black Cascade, eliminating all of the female vocals and a lot of the folk elements from the previous two albums. This is just straight up epic black metal at its finest. Fans of Burzum or Walknut should get on this album asap.

Easily this band's best album. They've gone in a completely different direction than their previous albums. No more symphonics or metalcore influences, this is just pure atmospheric/ambient black metal in the vein of Ash Borer or Wolves in the Throne Room. Very surprising to say the least.rDon't know how you can't see the Wolves in the Throne room comparisons. As for the Ash Borer thing, maybe it's just me.

Der Sturmer A Banner Greater than Death
This band honestly rules so hard. They're one of the hardest riffing black metal bands around today and are quickly becoming one of my favorites. The samples they include just add a little bit of a twist to their brand of punishing black metal. I highly recommend this and their most recent album Transcendental Racial Idealism. Draconian are back and just as good as they've always been. Nothing really too different than their other albums, but that's not a bad thing at all. Plenty of gloomy gothic metal and crushing doom metal to be found here. Whole band is on top of their game as always.

Also, nobody listen to Cryogenix. He's obviously at least half retarded.

This is some pretty amazing stuff and very, very unique for the black metal genre, if you could even call it that. Fans of prog and/or psychedelic music will dig the shit out of this. Even if you're someone who doesn't dig black metal at all, you'd still like this. It's like 85% prog/psychedelic and 15% black metal.

Midnight Odyssey Funerals from the Astral Sphere
Funerals from the Astral Sphere is up there with Ash Borer's self-titled and Shadows by Embers as one of the best black metal releases of the year. This is a two-disc album clocking in at over two hours long and yet it doesn't get boring for one minute, which makes it even more impressive. This album is drenched in atmosphere and ambiance with subtle melodies and folk influences throughout. Really impressive stuff.

This album is awesome. I think if anyone needs an example of raw black metal then you should listen to this album because this is pretty much the definition of it. There's really no other way to describe this. It's just straight up, raw black metal. No acoustic breaks, no symphonic instrumentals, nothing like that. Album flows pretty great too. These vocals may take some people a while to get used to though.

Ballout himself is a pretty awful rapper (by far the weakest link in GBE), but the production is really excellent and the guest spots are really good for the most part. Chief Keef, SD, Gino Marley, Fredo Santana, Capo, Blood Money, Tray Savage and Lil Durk all make appearances somewhere throughout this mixtape so it's not an overdose of Ballout by himself.

Album is good, but that's about it. Nothing here can compare to any of his older classic albums. Returns to the black metal style of the past, but really fails to compete with the classic Burzum albums. The thing that really disappointed me about this album was Varg's vocals. To me, his vocals sound completely uninspired and it kind of brought the album down.

Alright basically if you've always hated this band, you're still going to hate them. If you've always liked them, you're still going to like them. Darkly, Darkly, Venus Aversa isn't going to change any minds when it comes to Cradle. What you get is a very enjoyable symphonic black metal album. No more, no less. They've let Paul branch out with the guitars a little more with a few more solos, which is nice to hear because he's extremely talented he just needs to be given the chance. Marthus is also one beast of a drummer. Paul and Marthus definitely make this album. And no, this is not the potential album of the year, not by a long shot.

Everyone should know what to expect when you come into a Dark Funeral album. Extremely fast, raw, satanic Black Metal. There is really no other words to describe them. They do slow down some on Atrum Regina, but other than that this album is fast as hell. The guitars are fast tremlo picking and sometimes some melodic riffs. Drums are basically blast beats throughout the whole thing. Of course you cant hear the bass because its a Black Metal album. Emperor Magus Caligula's vocals are amazing as they always are. This is just a great album, just like the rest of Dark Funeral's discography. I reccomend this to fans of fast Black Metal bands like Marduk, Anaal Nathrakh, Gorgoroth, etc.

This really needs to stop being overrated by so many people. Yeah it's good, but it's nothing revolutionary and nothing that hasn't been done before. Also, the vocals really aren't that great at all.
ScHoolboy Q Setbacks
This is some pretty great stuff. The production is kinda like a mix of A Tribe Called Quest and Kanye West, which is awesome. He's not the greatest lyricist, but his flow and voice are are suitable for the beats that are presented here. If you liked Section 80 by Kendrick Lamar then chances are you'd like Setbacks too.

I went into this album not really expecting to like it, but I was very, very surprised. Sigh's weird and avant-garde sound is really on point this time around and I'd say this is easily the best stuff I've heard from them.

Stalley Savage Journey To The American Dream
First off, Stalley isn't the most talented artist in MMG. Wale and Meek Mill are both better, but with that being said, Stalley still holds his own on his newest mixtape and it's good that he'll be getting more exposure just because of how popular MMG is.

If this album wasn't almost an hour long then the rating would probably be higher. The guitar work on this album is fantastic, but this drags on for way too long for it to be any more than a 3.5. Still a pretty great album.

There's something about the fact that this album is kind of haunting that draws you in a little bit. It's really not a great (or even good) album by any means, but something about the atmosphere and weirdness makes it not suck completely. Don't expect anything like you've heard from Varg before because this is definitely his most, for lack of a better word, experimental album to date.

Gorgoroth Incipit Satan
This is Gorgoroth's worst album IMO. They do a lot of experimenting on this album. They mix electronic and some weird noises into this album. Some stuff sounds like the post-Nattens Madrigal era of Ulver with Black Metal shrieks courtesy of Gaahl. The production is good. I dont really like it that much, but if you're a huge Black Metalhead like me, then you should probably check it out. You never know, you might really like it, that just wasnt the case with me. A couple of songs i did like though are Incipit Satan, An Excerpt Of X, and When Love Rages Wild In My Heart.
Gorgoroth Quantos Possunt ad Satanitatem Trahunt
Grinning Death's Head Golden Dawn
Impiety Worshippers of the Seventh Tyranny
Starts off very promising and then gets extremely boring and monotonous around the 10-15 minute mark (the album is one 38 minute long song). Don't know where these 4.5's are coming from tbh, but to each their own.

Blut Aus Nord MoRT
Born of Osiris The Discovery
Children of Bodom Blooddrunk
Its the worst album they've released, but its not all that bad. Pretty repetitive. There are some standouts like the title track, One Day You Will Cry, Done With Everything Die For Nothing, and Banned From Heaven. The worst thing about this album is Alexi's vocals. They are completely shot. Thank god he's still decent on the guitar. For everyone who thinks that this is a Power Metal album or that COB is a Power Metal band, you are mistaken. This album is Melo-Death/Thrash Metal. If you're a die-hard COB fan you should get this, but if you're looking for something new to get into, start with Follow The Reaper or Are You Dead Yet?
Children of Bodom Relentless Reckless Forever
There are some good parts here and there, but it's just another Children of Bodom album. There's really nothing else that can be said.
Cradle of Filth Evermore Darkly
We all know that I'm a huge Cradle of Filth fanboy, but this fucking sucks. The one new song is good, but that doesn't make up for a stupid intro and five other shitty songs, four of them being terrible remixes from the last album and the other one being a preview of a new (technically old) song for the upcoming album. Let's just say I'm not too excited for the new album after hearing how they made a terrible remake of one of their most classic and well-known songs.

Going into this album i was expecting another great Industrial Black Metal album. What i got was a full on Industrial Metal album with no traces of Black Metal at all. With me being a Black Metal fan and not an Industrial Metal fan, this album made me angry. When i was listening i was just thinking "What in living hell was Nagash thinking when he wrote this album." I think when they mix Black Metal and Industrial Metal, it sounds good, but this is just too much. If you're a fan of Industrial Metal, you will most likely enjoy this, but if you're more of a Black Metal fan, you should definitely avoid this and get their other 3 albums.
