HAWKZ' BM GUIDE PT. 2: DEEP CUTS
THE DEPTHS OF HELL!!!! |
1 | | 1349 Hellfire
Hellfire is correct because that is what this album is. An assault of blasts and shrieks and trems from start to finish. |
2 | | Akasha Canticles of the Sepulchral Deity
One of the best modern bm albums. Its so filthy, lofi and punky. |
3 | | Anaal Nathrakh In the Constellation of the Black Widow
These Brits just do not miss when it comes to chaotic bm. Lots of grind influences in all their stuff also. This is their best. |
4 | | Arizmenda Within the Vacuum of Infinity...
RIP BRANDON!!! One of his fav albums and for good reason. One of the most trance inducing albums ever. These hazy riffs will have you hypnotized. |
5 | | Ash Borer 2009 Demo
I miss this band. This demo is so sublime. These guys really knew how to write some fantastic riffs and create a heavy bleak atmosphere. Drunke might be the best bm song ever. |
6 | | Bathory Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Lol its fucking Bathory duh??? |
7 | | Belenos Spicilege
An often forgotten gem. This one is a triumphant blend of lofi melodic bm and lots of folk influences. Fucking ripz. |
8 | | Bestial Warlust Vengeance War Til Death
HOORAY FOR DOWN AND DIRTY WAR METAL!!! |
9 | | Blasphemy Fallen Angel of Doom
Blasphemy is probably the most brutal out of all the first wave bands and this album is just all out chaos. |
10 | | Blut Aus Nord Memoria Vetusta II - Dialogue With The Stars
This band has so many gems but this is still their magnum opus. The mix of the riffs with the cosmic ambience is perfection. |
11 | | Bulldozer The Day of Wrath
A super underappreciated first wave album that thrashes so ahrd you might shit yourself. |
12 | | Candelabrum Portals
Another more modern album that absolutely slayz. Raw bm just has that atmosphere man. This is like a black hole with no hope of escape. |
13 | | Celestia Frigidiis Apotheosia
Ice cold lofi melodic bm from France and another one that deserves so much more love. |
14 | | Chthonic Seediq Bale
Could've been included on my first list tbh. Bombastic and intense symphonic bm that never gets too cheesy. |
15 | | Claret Ash The Cleansing
This one is a massive wall of hypnotizing riffs. A bit long but never drags. This is how atmospheric bm should sound. |
16 | | Cobalt Gin
Gin has gotten better and better over time. Let the sludgey trems take over your soul!! |
17 | | Coldworld Melancholie²
It doesn't get any better than this. The best atmospheric bm album of all time. Frigid and depressing. |
18 | | Craft Total Soul Rape
If you want some straight up misanthropic raw bm this is the perfect album for you. |
19 | | Cultes Des Ghoules Henbane
A blizzard of black magic. This is bm for witches to jam during a human sacrifice. |
20 | | Daccar-Tchuvz' Cave Cold Disobedience
A Canadian band that takes the sheer raw and depressive emotion of USBM bands like Leviathan and Judas Iscariot and makes it their own. One of my favs of the past few years. |
21 | | Darkspace Dark Space III
If you'd like the musical equivalent to being lost in space and running low on oxygen then I highly suggest you jam this. |
22 | | De Magia Veterum Naked Swords Into The Womb Of The Enemy
This band has always had a knack for making chaos sound so beautiful and this is the best in their discog. |
23 | | Deathspell Omega Fas - Ite, Maledicti, In Ignem Aeternum
Dense and frantic as all hell. Idgaf about this band's politics. This is pure bm art. |
24 | | Demonic Resurrection A Darkness Descends
INDIAN SYMPHONIC BM FTW!!! Band has always been amazing and never got the attention that they deserve. |
25 | | Der Weg Einer Freiheit Der Weg Einer Freiheit
This is still my fav from these guys. So many unbelievably amazing riffs here. |
26 | | Destroyer 666 Cold Steel...for an Iron Age
These Australian speedsters just can't put out a bad album. There are no better examples of bm and thrash mixed together. |
27 | | Diabolical Masquerade Nightwork
Extremely weird progressive/symphonic bm. Side project of Anders from Katatonia that he needs to start up again. |
28 | | Dodsferd Cursing Your Will to Live
Pure hateful riff heavy bm from the deepest depths of the soul. |
29 | | Drowning the Light Oceans of Eternity
This guy's catalogue is so extensive. Very raw and demonic bm that has riffs for days and days. |
30 | | Echoes of the Moon Esoteric
This guy needs WAY more love around here bros. Soarinfg atmospheric bm mixed with ambient and post rockish field recording type soundscapes. |
31 | | Embers Shadows
Wtf happened to this band??? God this album slayz so much. Its like riff heavy atmospheric/melodic bm with a crust punk attitude. |
32 | | Epheles Je Suis Autrefois
Suuuuuper creepy one right here folks. Ambient and melodic bm with such an eerie atmosphere. |
33 | | Ethereal Shroud Trisagion
NOCTUS ILY!!!! |
34 | | Falls of Rauros Key to a Vanishing Future
This band has always been hit or miss for me but this album is pure atmospheric folk bm greatness. |
35 | | Fell Voices Untitled
Another one of my favs that I wish would make more music. If you like your bm with lots of riffs and lots of drone, go for this one. |
36 | | Fen Carrion Skies
These guys sure know how to make some extremely epic folk bm and this is the best of their bunch. |
37 | | Forgotten Tomb Springtime Depression
Plz do not put a bullet in your brain after jamming this because u might wanna. Not because its bad but because it is OOZING with melancholy and despair. |
38 | | Geist Galeere
Look ANOTHER FORGOTTEN CLASSIC! Galeere is a fucking ripper of a melodic bm album and nobody ever talks about it. |
39 | | Gnaw Their Tongues L'arrivée de la Terne Mort Triomphante
A noisy and industrial influenced black ambient album with some of the most tortured vox you will ever hear. |
40 | | Goatmoon Finnish Steel Storm
The funnest raw bm album ever made. Goatmoon are the GOATS (see what I did there?) of blending lofi bm with bombastic folk elements. |
41 | | Grand Belial's Key Judeobeast Assassination
Band is a bunch of scumbags but you know what....these scumbags sure can write some FILTHY RIFFS. |
42 | | Hate Forest Purity
One of my favs from years ago. So natural and evil. Once again, the riffs here just cannot be denied. |
43 | | Havohej Dethrone the Son of God
So damn underrated around here. Extremely filthy and experimental bm from Paul of Profanatica. |
44 | | Havukruunu Uinuos Syömein Sota
This shit makes me wanna put on some armor and find a time machine to travel back to the middle ages. |
45 | | Hellvetic Frost Misanthropic Devotion
Album title says it all bros. Raw, misanthropic bm at its finest. |
46 | | Hulder Godslastering: Hymns of a Forlorn Peasantry
I love this band. This lady really does the mix of raw bm with folk and gothic undertones to fucking perfetion. |
47 | | Hypothermia Köld
This album might give you hypothermia because it is frosty and depressing as hell. |
48 | | I Shalt Become Wanderings
The USBM version of Filosofem tbh. Hypnotic ambient bm. Band blowz now but we still have this. |
49 | | Impaled Nazarene Ugra-Karma
Band has always been so much damn fun. They add humor into their frenzied style of bm and have always been heavily influenced by the 80s punk scene. |
50 | | Imperial Triumphant Vile Luxury
Brings the jazzy dissonance so ahrd bros. Add in an extremely dense bm sound to boot and you have this mammoth. |
51 | | Judas Iscariot Distant In Solitary Night
So evil that you might burst into flames while listening. Heavily atmospheric riffs on this album. Another bandcthat deserves so much more love. See a trend yet? |
52 | | Kataxu Hunger of Elements
One of my first Sput discoveries in 2008! Non cheesy symphonic bm with big ambient and cosmic elements. |
53 | | Kawir Isotheos
Got into this band last year and haven't looked back. They make folk inspired bm sound so damn triumphant and epic. |
54 | | Kekht Arakh Pale Swordsman
A modern fav of mine also. This guy's brand of "romantic" and vampyric raw bm just hits the spot. Lots of gothic influences as well. |
55 | | Krallice Years Past Matter
Took a long time for this band to click for me and this was the album that did it. COSMIC TREMZ OV TRVTH! |
56 | | Lantlos .neon
One of the best post bm albums ever. Anything with Neige involved is bound to be great. This one incorporates some post punk atmosphere into their bm bonanza. |
57 | | Leviathan The Tenth Sub Level of Suicide
Outside of Panopticon, nobody in the USBM scene does it better than Leviathan. Wrest may be a piece of garbage but I think it helps him make some of the moodiest and evil bm ever. |
58 | | Lord Mantis Pervertor
Pervertor is an absolute GIANT of sludgey bm. You can hear the tar oozing from your speakers while this plays. |
59 | | Mare Cognitum The Sea Which Has Become Known
Similar to Darkspace, Mare Cognitum have the "black hole in the solar system" feel to them. So many icy trems and blasts. |
60 | | Misthyrming Algleymi
The best band to come from the Icelandic bm scene. This thing is a flurry of soaring riffs and and ice cold atmosphere. |
61 | | Mithotyn In the Sign of the Ravens
Nobody ever talks about this album. Its like a medieval bm opera with epic synth work and melodic riffs galore. |
62 | | Mortifera (FRA) Bleüu de morte
French bm has a tendencie to sound colder, rawer and more bleak than any other scene and this is no exception. |
63 | | Mutiilation Vampires of Black Imperial Blood
See my above description of Mortifera and apply it to this times a billion. |
64 | | Negura Bunget 'N Crugu Bradului
Band was a huge grower for me but they clicked ahrd and this album is a masterpiece of folky psychedelic bm. |
65 | | Nokturnal Mortum Lunar Poetry
Another band whose members are garbage but make nothing but bangers. Lofi symphonic folk bm that makes you wanna dance in a rainforest. |
66 | | October Falls The Womb of Primordial Nature
I have been repping this since 2009 and will never stop. If you like a soothing yet haunting atmospheric/folk bm album like Agalloch then you need to hear this. |
67 | | Old Corpse Road 'Tis Witching Hour... As Spectres We Haunt This Ki
Fucking AWESOME and bombastic symphonic bm that veers into folk and classical ranges as well. Lots of early Cradle influnces here. |
68 | | Paysage d'Hiver Paysage d'Hiver
MOMMY HELP I'M LOST IN THE BLIZZARD OF TREMZ AND I CAN'T SEE! |
69 | | Persefone Truth Inside the Shades
An absolute banger of symphonic and progressive bm that gets overshadowed by their later stuff. Spoiler: this is best. |
70 | | Peste Noire La Sanie des Siècles
Idk wtf this band is doing nowadays but nothing beats their early stuff. Extremely raw folk bm with some unhinged vox. |
71 | | Phantom Spire Our Heaven Amongst the Stars
Another more recent discovery. Band is so damn good bros. Mix of dreamy sounding dungeon synth and heavily raw bm. |
72 | | Ragnarok Arising Realm
Gets lost amongst the classic Norwegian albums but its just as good. Frigid melodic bm with so many riffs your head might explode. |
73 | | Remete (AUS) Into Endless Night
What a fucking whirlwind this is. Drenched in reverb and shoegazey atmosphere. |
74 | | Rhinocervs Odour of Dust and Rot
There is definitely an odor of dust and rot here. Some of the rawest and filthiest bm ever recorded. |
75 | | Sadness The Rain That Falls Alone
This guy's output of depressing, atmospheric, post punky bm is off the damn charts. |
76 | | Sarcofago I.N.R.I.
The most blasphemous bm album ever made??? Its possible. BLACK THRASH FUCKING ATTACK! |
77 | | Sargeist Satanic Black Devotion
My fav Finnish bm band and thats saying something. They just nail the atmospheric raw bm sound to perfection. |
78 | | Satanic Warmaster Carelian Satanist Madness
See description for Sargeist and apply to this as well!! |
79 | | Sigh Hangman's Hymn
Sigh's catalogue is varied and brilliant but this is the one I come back to most. Progressive, experimentally weird symphonic bm that is all over the place in a good way. |
80 | | Silencer (SWE) Death - Pierce Me
Polarizing album. Won't get into the mystique of it but the album itself is the musical equivalent of a psych ward. Drenched in depression with inhuman vox that are more cries than screams. |
81 | | Solefald The Linear Scaffold
Before Solefald got too heavy into experimentation they put out this symphonic bm banger and its still their best. |
82 | | Svartidaudi Flesh Cathedral
Competes with Misthyrming for best Icelandic bm band. This thing is FRIGID and chock full of amazing riffs. |
83 | | Thantifaxath Sacred White Noise
This one blew me away when it was released and still holds up. Pure chaos in every sense of the word with the whirlwind of trems and blast beats. |
84 | | The Great Old Ones EOD: A Tale of Dark Legacy
Lovecraft inspired post bm that hits the spot on so many levels. So much epicness packed into one album. |
85 | | The Ruins of Beverast Rain Upon the Impure
Possibly the densest bm album ever recorded. Its like being trapped in a downpour only the raindrops are riffs. |
86 | | Together to the Stars An Oblivion Above
One of my fav post bm albums. These guys take a super dreamy atmosphere and somehow make it sound dark as hell. |
87 | | Trha Nvenlanëg
Ambient bm perfection right here. This guy puts out 94 albums a year so its hard to keep up but this is my fav that I've heard so far. |
88 | | Tyrant (JPN) Under The Dark Mystic Sky
Another recent discovery that I wish I'd found years ago. Raw symphonic bm with some of the best keyboard work you'll hear on a bm album. |
89 | | Uada Cult of a Dying Sun
When it comes to modern melodic bm, this is the cream of the crop. |
|
