ERRA Cure
For sure their weakest overall record yet, which is not saying much, considering that ERRA is and always has been the spearhead of modern metalcore following the tried and true, cookie cutter formula of progressive riffs, breakdowns, growls and the obligatory clean chorus inbetween. Since 15 years they are basically doing the Killswitch Engage routine with better production, better technicality, and more hard-hitting emotional highs as well as bits of brutality. Their breakdowns are just heavier, as well as played more brainy - think Misery Signals (but not entirely on the level on the latter). Unfortunately though, all in all it's getting a

The Ghost Inside Searching for Solace
Masterpieces like Death Grip and Split as well as the interesting experiment of Cityscapes
shake hands with the most mainstream copy of Linkin Park I have ever heard by any metalcore
band ever, namely Wash It Away. If you close your eyes while listening to the latter,
Chester literally becomes alive again. I am not even fucking kidding. Why a VERY well-
respected and basically unhateable band in the genre (not only because of coming back from
their haunting and soul-crushingly sad past) does a shitty choice like this and basically
betrays their own hardcore slash metal roots so much that it's pur

Northlane Mirror's Edge
Interesting experiment that equally excels in what it wants to achieve as that it fails. While Miasma is laughably bad and I couldn't care less about Let Me Disappear, Kraft and Dante on the other end of the spectrum are straight up amazing. Afterimage is a track I very much enjoy and that flows exactly in the middle of these two poles for me. Therefore, I can enjoy this for what it is - a fun little collection of ideas, a musical brainfart of sorts, where not every idea has been fully developed before recording it. Now let's make another album and show us if you're capable of greatness again, my fellow Aussies.

Eidola Eviscerate
The low-growled screams aren't the best from a technical standpoint tbh and the progressiveness is once more a bit too much for their own good, but other than that, it's another solid entry by Eidola. Just not as amazing as all their previous records.

Texas in July Without Reason
Dunno what collins is on, but this is neither Dient nor Deathcore, omegalul. It's bread and butter-Metalcore, played absolutely by the numbers. A bit boring for Texas in July standards, but it's nice to have them back at the ring.

Acres Burning Throne
Amazing record. Mitch can suck a horse's cock and go back to listening to pretentious, soulless technical black metal for music students. Enjoying Acres actually needs a heart, not only a mind. Let this sink in and think about it, it will all make sense after two spins of their discography.

Of Virtue Omen
Basically a death sentence to their own identity. There is nothing left of their earth-shattering brutality as well as their creative songwriting back in the Heartsounds- and Salvation-days. As hinted on the terrible What Defines You already and cranking this sonical choice up to one hundred, Of Virtue has gone full sellout now. Mainstream to appeal to the masses. Poppy choruses wherever you look, way less growls, way less heavy riffing, way fewer breakdowns, no more progressiveness, softer production...the list goes on and on. What you have to give them credit for is two things though. Firstly, they are still capable of writing absolute bang

  • c0nf1n3d Wow, thank you! I joined this website years ago and mostly use it as a journal in a sense to reflect on how I feel about albums during the time I listen to them. Opinions can change over time, so it's fascinating to go back and check out how you felt about something. It's really cool you got something from it though, so thanks again.

  • FearThyEvil Trust me, I get why people are disliking new Tool a lot but to me, all I really wanted was new material in closer vein to what they've done so it bothered me none to even slightly hear a rehashing of sound. To each their own though as I can totally see complaints from others about it.

  • FearThyEvil I wasn't lying when I said most of my toxicity came from the earlier days. I may get into arguments in threads in once in awhile but it's only if someone truly says something stupid that needs to be remarked against. If anything, I should those soundoffs but the sites function is so annoying having to go INTO the soundoffs page instead of just deleting it from your ratings page.

  • FearThyEvil In the Acres soundoff, all I did was give my thoughts on the album. If that triggers you, that's on you because people are allowed to have those thoughts. I love new Tool but a lot of people are saying it's awful, hey they're allowed to.
