Take some time off, smoke something and then listen to Toska on repeat. You wont notice how one single song fades to one magnificent opus and how five minutes become fifty. Before you are finally able to close the player or your eyes, you're on Mars. Lost in space. Literally.

A versatile, mature and heartfelt symphony of melodies and honest emotions, paired with astonishingly beautiful jazzy moments. Fine musicians crafted a lasting, inspiring and fleet-footedly delivered piece of art that really seems to deserve the term 'art' more than any other record in 2010. I am speechless looking in the face of this magnificent work.

Surprisingly interesting output by a band that reached it's bottom with their latest record 'Felony'. On the one hand 'Speaker Of The Dead' is an incredibly brutal and heavy ride with some outstanding tracks like 4 Poisons 3 Words, Lights Bring Salvation and their two singles. And on the other hand it features weak, replaceable material like Area 64-66 or My Name Is Thanos and shows a kind of undeniable redundancy in breakdowns and overall musicianship after examining the whole length and consistency of the record in detail. In terms of production, it's easily Sturgis' best work ever. The bass lines are perfectly audible, dubstep elements, electronic parts and samples fit nicely and the general groove knows how to be hypnotizing and tight at once. All in all not really an excellent record, but a great one for Palmeri & Sons. Their third best, placing shortly after 'The Respect Issue'. 3.8

Gideon Milestone
I am sorry for all 'generic'-proclaimers but this record is not mindless chugging, it's chugging on purpose. On purpose of emotion, anger and hope. It utilizes brutality to showcase feelings and it does damn well. Consider records like FURY AND THE FALLEN ONES (The Ghost Inside), CHANGES (For The Fallen Dreams) or MESSENGERS (August Burns Red) - yes, it's that good of a chugfest. If The Ghost Inside would play great breakdowns on their new CD (which they don't!), these would sound like the Gideon ones over here. Awesome intervals and time signatures e.g. like at the end of "Bad Blood" aren't the usual metalcore listen, because not every band is capable of bringing technical skills to the table when it comes to junz. What's left is a hilariously straight forward record that features some of the finest modern mosh moments imaginable. A huge improvement from COSTS and definitely a record that makes you wanna break stuff afterwards and/or during the listen. Give it a spin and don't hesitate to move your body. Brain off, junz on.

a good candidate for the introduction of the numerical value 3.75 here on sputnik. it's really not 'excellent', but surely kind of better than 'great'. it does not feel generic, even by definitely being generic at some parts. it's neither fish nor fowl. it's just a catchy record that clearly overshadowes the previously released EP of a band that hugely showcases something what - in the majority of cases - we like to call: potential.

Surprisingly good and nice atmosphere over here. Definitely a huge step up from the mediocre and bland 'Depravity', which also had a much creepier production. The vocals are fine, the breakdowns enjoyable and the meshuggah riffing continues for the better. No milestone and nothing new at all, but in terms of progression, color me surprised.

awesome german electronica - unfortunately a bit tiring after a while, peppered with mediocre vocals (when they are used) and despite of "you don't know me" lacking real hits/outstanders. overall nice tunes. a good 3.5.
Architects Ruin
Architects The Here and Now
Arsonists Get All The Girls Portals
Arsonists Get All The Girls Motherland
considering the sound, ideas and stuff, this is basically Portals 2. first half is kinda boring, the second is more varied. especially "will someone please turn down the ocean?", "tempest" and the beautiful "west cliffs" rule as fuck. unfortunately the rest can't keep up with these killer tracks. still a great record.

Chimaira Coming Alive
Solid live output of a band playing relatively consistent over the last couple of years. One song more out of "Impossibility Of Reason" for one "Infection"-song would not have been that bad, but overall nice choice of hits. Tone quality is fine, DVD with 7 hours+ bonus material is sick. All in all a very pleasing collection for a fan and nicely intriguing to newcomers.

Circle Of Contempt Entwine The Threads
technically brilliant as usual, but a little too chaotic, overall missing the catchy parts. "Dare To Defy" is skippable btw, what makes Entwine The Threads basically a 4-song EP rather than a 5-track one. 20 percent filler? not that great, especially at such a short playtime (19 minutes). a good 3.5, nothing more. calm down guys.

a letdown considering In Shallow Seas. I hate Devin Shelton for leaving this band, seriously. the circumstance of two clean vocalists was the key factor that made Emery special, just like e.g. Mayday Parade. both bands screwed it. good job. not. aside from all that the record is fine in what it does. but it is just sad that they wasted so much potential. hopefully this will turn out as a grower in the end.

Thank god it's better than Back Burner. The cleans are often times misplaced but not as annoying as they were used to be. Lowlights are certainly weaklings like NO ONE TO BLAME or WAKING UP ALONE but fortunately the album also features tracks like YOUR FUNERAL, SOBER or WHEN PUSH COMES TO SHOVE which showcase that not all talent of a former "genre/niche giant" is lost. A bearable listen for die hard junz-fans that are capable to fade out some choruses here and there plus people that have swallowed the bitter pill of FOR THE FALLEN DREAMS' kind of "downhill progression", if you even want to call it like that.

pretty solid tbh. I also like the production in particular.

I'm not able to not enjoy the junz. vocals are fine, too. also huge improvement for them, as far as I remember the EP's were shitty as hell. the goth passages are annoying at times though.
Motions and Miles Grace
great EP but unfortunately nowhere near real In:Aviate material. it seems the drummer had a bigger impact on the band than someone would have thought. also sad they seemed to split again...let's wait and hope for a final reunion, I heard some rumours about this one or two months ago.

post-hardcore -> heavy metalcore -> hardcore. this band can't decide at all. I wouldn't call it progression either...it's simply constant change. I don't know what to think about this, but each record for itself is pretty solid. Seen as a band, this is heavily inconsistent :D
Northlane World Eater
Of Machines As If Everything Was Held In Place
Of Mice & Men Of Mice & Men
Oh, Sleeper When I Am God
Oh, Sleeper Children of Fire
This seems like a typical grower to me. Despite of 3-4 tracks, Children of Fire is not really accessible and furthermore not as catchy as expected. A long term listen. For now, it's a good 3.5 for me. Might grow and advance to a finite 4, but as I said - this will most probably need some time and concentration/focus. At the moment it is slightly behind Son of the Morning.

Stolas Living Creatures
Worse than A Lot Like Birds, worse than Hail The Sun, worse than Dance Gavin Dance but still way above average. They did not get everything out of the features imo and also they did kind of a fail tracklisting, giving four of the five features away in tracks 7-10 instead of being smart and mixing them more apart from each other. Aside from 'Our Last Night On Earth' and 'Year Of The Light' also lacking real hits for me...dunno. If this would have been a random band, not pushed and hyped that much (e.g. by Will Swan himself) I would not even give them several more spins. A semi-letdown for me in 2013.

Taylor Swift Speak Now
Ten After Two Truth Is...
Underrated with a 3, overrated with a 3.5. Probably a 3.25-thing. Even if they come with great technique and good ideas, Ten After Two aren't able to grab me at first listen. They certainly delivered a fine record here, but I would heavily suggest them to work on their catchiness and accessibilty.

The Color Morale My Devil In Your Eyes
The Contortionist Shapeshifter
The Contortionist Intrinsic
It's not what I expected, nor what I hoped for. This does not necessarily mean that the record is bad, not by any means, but it is certainly not anything fans or long time Contortionist listeners would most likely demand from them. EXOPLANET was a heavy deathcore experience with intelligent time signatures, crisp breakdowns and crystal clear ambient/progressive elements, maintaining a good balance between clean singing and harsh growling and/or screaming. But INTRINSIC is more of a progressive metal record that relies heavily on spacy and lofty riffing, keys and ambient tuning while giving a lot of room for cleans only. Comparing these two, one definitely finds a certain lack of heavy parts, featuring very little breakdowns and growled segments at all. Also, when The Contortionist tries to be brutal on INTRINSIC (e.g. on SOLIPSIS or at the middle of CORTICAL) they fail, completely exaggerating it on the brawly, noisy side. So all in all I did not know or could have imagined that TC were going fully progressive/ambient after their first album snippets, but it is not the change I had longed for, at least not in such extent. Finally, INTRINSIC is not average at all and actually pretty good in what it wants to deliver, but it does just not appease my musical appetite and all in all it's just too dull and constant to fully grab or entertain me. In other words: it's a bit boring in all it's consistency. 'Lost in space', one could say.

"ever sea born" is one hell of a song, also "leader in disguise" kicks some serious ass - but why in hell does "try to break light in pieces" drag so long...also the two interlude songs bring nothing meaningful to the table and are mainly filler material. all in all a great effort but not excellent at all - a little unfortunate for the german post-hc gods traeos.

Volumes Via
more near to a 3 than to a 4. two fillerintro's, two rehashed tracks and six forgettable songs, leaving us with only two new outstanders from this record which is much too less considering their previous work. our sad result: the EP was much better, not productionwise but in terms of musicianship and consistency. nevertheless this is no bad listen at all and still one of the flagship's of modern day's djent. but as we see they wasted tons of their potential...

While She Sleeps The North Stands For Nothing
While She Sleeps This Is The Six
Winter Solstice The Fall of Rome
Within the Ruins Elite
naaaah bloc, Invade was much rougher, sounding way more evil and not even coming close to the catchiness of this one. it's a step up for Within The Ruins, without bringing anything original to the table. 'I, Blaspheme' is a nice highlight with the programmed guitars but that's about it. from 3 to 3.5 for me.

50 Lions Where Life Expires
A Bullet For Pretty Boy Symbiosis
unfortunately its not as diverse as Revision:Revise was and additionally there are only two or three songs which aren't generic and boring at all. also the cleans have gone worse - don't ask me why..basically you get what you expect by purchasing this record: nothing groundbreaking nor fun, but a slight-above-average modern post-hc/metalcore output from a band that constantly seems to match the genre mean.
A Day To Remember What Separates Me From You
Calmer and softer than Homesick, coevally feeling kinda rushed. Overall a quite catchy pop-punk output with very few core elements left and a really short running time. I don't know if I am liking this direction much. Leaving it a 3.5 for now, maybe downgrading it to 2.5-3 after the next few listens.

Bermuda Isolationist(s)
good and promising debut EP of a band I would like to rename into "Little Volumes". they kind of rely on the sound of last-mentioned band in 2-3 of their songs and even deliver a feature with the Volumes-shouter on one of them. unfortunately the actual djent parts are very rare and sparely used which could be an issue to fix for a possibly following full length. all in all the deathcore portion is still too high to really shine in a crowded and flooded genre like this.
Betrayal Abandonment
a rock-solid moshcore record - nothing more, nothing less. if you like Legend, For The Fallen Dreams or Altars, you might dig this. the track 'Abandonment' shines most because of the TGI-guest vocal spot. 3.25

Rooks Infinite II
not bad but not nearly as great as Infinite I's approach on a vague term like post metalcore. definitely needs a certain amount of spins to shape a trustworthy opinion.
Saosin In Search Of Solid Ground
Scar Symmetry The Unseen Empire
it's definitely a suitable record for scar symmetry, even if they are too much trying to copy their older sound. The Unseen Empire stands above their latest effort Dark Matter Dimensions, but does ultimately not reach the quality of Aelvestam-material (their first three records).

something between a 3 and a 3.5 for me.

Strangers Holding Water
for a KARL SCHUBACH production, the sound of this EP is total shit. everything is just too quiet and only the first 29 seconds of the opening track really shine in terms of mastering. after these I thought to myself 'dear god, what will follow now?' and then I had to face this particular disappointment. Whatever, the songs LAKE NYOS and SEVEN PERSONS really stand out and don't fail to disappoint at all, so ultimately the cd comes out as a little dig of mine.

listen to my mate chris higgins, he speaks the truth. this record is hella fun and shouldn't be taken serious at all. 200% flippancy.
That's Outrageous! Psycho
The Acacia Strain Death is the Only Mortal
The Acacia Strain Money for Nothing
The Black Dahlia Murder Deflorate
The Classic Crime Albatross
The Crimson Armada Guardians
The Fall of Troy In the Unlikely Event
The Maine Pioneer
the maine finally start to progress and mature. listen to the bridge of "When I'm At Home" or "Waiting For My Sun To Shine" to get your proof. unfortunately there are overall too many fillertracks for a 3.5-rating.
The Ocean Heliocentric
the Orphan, the Poet In Brevity
3.25 alt/indie/rock/post-hc mix with nice ideas. cool band overall.
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus The Hell or High Water
The Rendering Protector
The Rendering Voices
A slight improvement from Protector, but for their next output they should get rid of the synths and massive scene approaches. 3.25 because they know how to play their instruments and have some Legend/Acacia Strain vibes at times (e.g. listen to "End" in full).

Us, From Outside Revived

Voices Anchors
it prevails fake with weak breakdowns, boring cleans, solid shouting but huge melody and riffing potential. also the track fade out's/in's are hilariously good. overall no standout firstborn but definitely a band to keep an eye on, especially if they get a good producer for their full length.
Walking With Strangers Buried, Dead & Done
Walls of Jericho With Devils Amongst Us All
Wayne Static Pighammer
We Are The In Crowd Guaranteed To Disagree
some shiners but very short and a little bit boring overall. with a paramore-like songstress and old mayday parade'sk dual vocals there could have been done much more tbh.
We Are The Ocean Cutting Our Teeth
We Came As Romans To Plant A Seed
We're Not Friends Anymore The Constant Dreamer
interesting and honest first EP, unfortunately not autotune-free.
Whitechapel A New Era of Corruption
"If you enjoyed This Is Exile then you will like this, if you didn't then you'll hate it."
That's not correct, sir. "This Is Exile" wasn't mine but the new output kicks some serious ass'. They progressed much imo.

Brandon Boyd The Wild Trapeze
Breathe Carolina Hell Is What You Make It
even facing heavy inconsistencies in musicianship plus generic and mainstream instrumentation/singing, this record can at least be considered as a bearable effort and a step into the right direction. maybe it will need another three records for them to really produce something true and original, but that is not the point. the point is that these guys are slowly weaking up. slowly but steadily.
Brighter Arrows Division and What It Is to Abide
Bring Me The Horizon Suicide Season Cut Up!
Bury Your Dead It's Nothing Personal
Capture the Crown Til Death
Chelsea Grin My Damnation
album is really weak compared to Desolation Of Eden+EP. without the comparison it's still nothing special and just a boring deathcore record tbh. sad one for CG, to me it felt they had huge potential..
Cloudkicker Loop
Constellations Constellations
solid output by the germans, for the future they only need a good producer and better mastering. also their main shouter isn't the best, maybe he should attend some vocal courses to improve his range, drive and especially his entry tactfulness.

Ektomorf What Doesn't Kill Me...
Emmure Demo '04

Fall of Serenity Royal Killing
Flux Pavilion Lines in Wax

Go Radio Welcome to Life
Godsmack The Oracle
Guano Apes Bel Air
seriously. it's bad - for apes standards. 2-3 really enjoyable tracks, the rest is washed-out & mushy pop. easy forgettable, but sad for a comeback try. ps: the fact that the best track on the record (Fire) is just one of two bonus tracks on the deluxe edition symptomatically speaks for the many false decisions the band made on this record.
Helia 2036
a truly average output. they had potential and wasted it. "memento mori" showcases what they COULD have been. but no, they still preferred genericness, overediting and bad screams.

Lena Good News
This sophomore effort alarmingly showcases what is meant by the common term 'wasted potential', especially for a skilled songstress like Lena. 'Good News' features boring & tame songwriting and feels kinda rushed with this abrupt ending. On top of that it lacks the bluesy/jazzy touch of the forerunner and is not able to compensate the erstwhile hit frequency on 'My Cassette Player'. Apart from all that Lena is overall fortunately able to cover up the writing and carry the record with her warm voice and singing abilities. For the Eurovision Song Contest 2011, I would definitely have suggested to choose "A Million And One", which is easily the best song on the record. The song they have chosen ("Taken By A Stranger") is the only track that is kinda different from the others on the album and hence marks a bearable, but not a winning alternative.
Linkin Park Living Things
what deviant said. just boring. also they have no drummer anymore, it's fully electronic. huge disappointment, especially after all the hype. victimized is a bad joke.
Lower Than Atlantis Far Q
Madball Rebellion
Make Me Famous Keep This in Your Music Player
Mendeed The Dead Live By Love
Monsters Monsters
years spent cold/emmure rip off with annoying rap/nu metal parts apart from nice mosh moments. some skippable songs, but overall worth a listen - especially for genre 'fans'.
Morgan's Accident There's No Sun Where We're Going
most likely the most generic thing I have heard for years, but funnily enough it seems bearable. the sky eats airplane connection dswhite85 made is not too bad, even Morgan's Accident are much less technical and innovative. bland popcorn newschool scenecore release to switch off your mind for a while, haha.

The Rise of Science Casey
after comparisons with tides of man, closure in moscow and even circa survive, this was a huge letdown for me. tame music, boring vocals, awkward song lengths and flows, many good ideas but poor execution. also the phone calls(wtf!!!!?!?!!) are killing me. never heard such annoying and disturbing rubbish on a record.
Then Falls Caesar Survive The Night
boring. the cleans are the only outstanding thing about them imo. he sounds much like jordan blake, jagmin, ryan randall, stephen rezza and all the other modern emocore/post-hardcoresque countertenors. maybe stop the shitty metalcore parts and follow an original path...dunno. 2.25

American Me III
Its so bad...their worst actually. I don't know what they did with the vocals but it sounds worse than beatdown music, both - technique and productionwise (funny thing is that the guitars and drums are fine..). Not even several guest appearances can't help American Me...they are past remedy. Time to break up.
Asking Alexandria Life Gone Wild
At the Skylines The Secrets To Life
Aside from "143 Princess", "Turbulence" and the leastwise catchy "Chapter 7" this is pure rubbish. It's hard to even bear the first three songs of this disc. Imagine a bastard of Asking Alexandria, Enter Shikari and Cartel. Sounds retarded? It is. Brutal scenecore takes turns with cheesy, poorly sung pop punk. Thank god they borrowed Kellin Quinn from Sleeping With Sirens which tries to make a brave rescue effort at the end of the record...only the light of his presence keeps this longplayer above total squits-material in the 1.0/1.5-regions.
Between Seas Shorelines
Mostly terrible, unexperienced and uninspired, but not entirely inaudible, e.g. as the song "Midnight Terminator" truly shines out with it's epic atmospheric outro. Props for that.
Born of Osiris A Higher Place
brokeNCYDE Guilty Pleasure
Carry Your Ghost Decisions
weak, bumptious and hubristic for the fallen dreams-rip off with no feeling for time signatures at all. guitar and drum production are an 1:1 copy of FtfD's "Changes" and fifty percent of the breakdowns are horrible. some enjoyable moments of guitar harmony save this record from the tales of 1.X-newschool faggotry. these guys should seriously rethink their musical future.
Confession Cancer
Converge Jane Doe
Defiler Pangaea
poor record from a technically bad band that get's a little bit better in the last tracks, saving it from a 1-1.5 rating.
dredg Chuckles & Mr. Squeezy
aside from chillout tracks six, seven and eight (which really stand out) this record is just plain boring and weak. a shame for standard dredg material.

Sepultura Schizophrenia
Silence The Messenger Buried
Sleepingdog With Our Heads in the Clouds...
one great and one bearable song aren't able to override six weak songs with obtrusive ambient parts, too extreme volume changes and overall evident boredom & mediocrity. everything that shined back in "Polar Life" (piano arrangements, vocal harmonies, perceptible emotions) is gone, what automatically leaves "With Our Heads In The Clouds And Our Hearts In The Fields" as the biggest letdown in 2011's music history so far.
Suicide Silence No Time to Bleed
The Black Dahlia Murder Nocturnal
The Holy Guile FSU
lol at these vocals. I never heard something shittier, never in my life. you all can't be serious with these ratings, sorry guys. trolling 2.0. ah sry: trolling greater than, slash three.
The Irish Front Universe
The Maine Black & White
just another mushy output of a band that softens and gets more mainstream with every new release. black & white covers finest major label pop punk material for every girl that has not yet hit the 'age-of-15 mark'. if you like to hear another easy forgettable, reduced-calorie diet record for slimming cure listeners, then black & white is your CD.
The Paramedic The Devil in Me
2.25
Thursday Common Existence
Transit Something Left Behind
did not work out for me, even if I am a sucker for acoustic music and cheesy pop punk. the guitars are quite plain and not technical & catchy enough for me plus the singer annoys me at times because he is off-key so often that it hurts my ears .Drmaybe or most probably it is a disadvantage not to know their older songs & outputs yet...dunno. all in all there are like 2-3 good songs on here but that is definitely not a strong reason for me to listen to this record like on a daily basis or so.
War From A Harlots Mouth War From A Harlots Mouth/Burning Skies Split
Watchout! Theres Ghosts Ghost Town
Woodkid Iron

1.5 very poor
50 Lions Nowhere To Run
A Hero A Fake The Future Again
Adam Kills Eve They Almost Killed us With Their Hypocrisy
hurts my ears. bad riffs, bad timing, bad singing...wtf. terribad ./ can't get into them, even if I try very hard to do so. actually one of the first times I had to stop a cd shortly before the end because it annoyed and disappointed me so much. at least it features one more or less 'good' song with Ready Steady Save The World. When Icarus Met John Nash is bearable too.
Aspirin Rose Stay In Your Hearts
Bearable music and technique but their main singer is just outrageously bad. I cannot stand his cleans because they are often shockingly off-key and because he uses a pitch I just find very hard to listen to. He honestly ruins the whole cd. If I were the band I would either kick him or collect money to sponsor him singing lessons.
Atreyu The Congregation Of The Damned

I hate the ones that created this site. How can anyone with a non-damaged brain POSSIBLY compare them to _AUGUST BURNS RED_ or _MISERY SIGNALS_?!??? What-the-fuck guys?
