 | OmairSh Haha yeah having a decent conversation on sputnik/the internet without any expletives, noice. Yeah I know, it's the genre tag that bothers you more than the elements.
 | OmairSh And I think the tag "experimental" could be a turn off for a lot of music listeners. Its also an umbrella term and has many variants but it does give the impression that the music isn't following any song structure, and might not have many "catchy" melodies, etc. Maybe they wanted to avoid turning off many potential listeners, if they had even thought of the term back then.
 | OmairSh And your main gripe is with the word "progressive" being used to describe a genre that might not be doing much that is fresh or unheard of. Yeah in essence the word might be being misused, for example in Dream Theaters case. But it has become a genre tag now and like all genres, it has certain core elements which its bands adhere to. I guess you need to find the elitist who slapped the "progressive" label on this music style and give him (most definitely a 'him') a piece of your mind :P.
