Jethro42
03.20.20 | 5 is hard to forget and hard to beat. These guys in pyjamas clapping their hands ;D Song is so soulful. It also features Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's nephew I think. I also dig 4 hard...These vocals...so intense, so felt, so true! I'm going forward to discover other gems!... |
OmairSh
03.21.20 | @zaruyache, glad to hear that. Whereabouts are ya?
@Jethro: Hahaha the dude's in pyjamas are gangstas agreed :-D. Yeah man #5 is in my Coke Studio top 5. Yeah Muazzam is Nusrat's nephew, you got that right. Glad you're enjoying man! I knew you would at the very least haha.
Yeah man 4 is so good, I LOVE the build up and mood. And they incorporate Kashmir in it subtlety. Very nicely done. Wait till you get to 7 and 13. LOVE the bass on those |
zaruyache
03.21.20 | few hrs north of pittsburgh in one of those olde smol forest towns.

OmairSh
04.02.20 | Listening to 3, 4, 5 again |
Jethro42
04.02.20 | 13 is right up my alley, especially its instrumental ending. I have to relisten to that one.
20 is a great spaced up jam. I will listen to everything you've rated 8.5 and more. |
OmairSh
04.03.20 | Glad you're enjoying Jethro! Yeah I LOVE 13, the bassline is SO sexy.
I realize I put too many songs in this hist heh. Next time I'll keep it between 5 and 10. 30 are a lot to digest |
OmairSh
04.25.20 | Alright I'm in this mood again |
Thalassic
04.25.20 | Only Pakistani song I'm familiar with is this one;

SitarHero
04.25.20 | Corona pyaar hai |
Jethro42
04.25.20 | You're missing lots of stuff, Thalassic.
I will continue my ride on here, Omair. It's just that I'm participating on a musical tourney atm, among others... |
OmairSh
04.26.20 | Hahah Thalassic, if that's your only exposure then I feel sorry for you. I haven't even heard that song and turned it off after a few seconds hah. I'd suggest #2 if you want something heavy. 5 is a must listen though
@Sitar: hahah. The new rishta quote is "mujsey shaadi corona" ;-) |
OmairSh
04.26.20 | @Jethro: No worries dude! Take your sweet time, there's A LOT of songs that I put in this list so I know it's really time consuming. I'd definitely recommend giving 13 another listen, I have a feeling that will grow on you
|
Flashmobba
04.26.20 | dang thought I was the only pakiland guy on this site. salam broskis!
Entity Paradigm deserves a mention imo |
OmairSh
04.26.20 | Aao jiiii Flash saab wasalam, I know of 3 desis now (yourself, myself, an Sitar). EP's at 16 ;). I had to double check, would have been surprised if I left that out
Asad Ahmed (guitarist for Awaz) has released a solo instrumental rock album called Rebirth, you should check that out dude. Nothing revolutionary but it's a pretty good listen |
Flashmobba
04.26.20 | duuuuude thats sick, you from Karachi? I've been in Dallas for a while but gonna go back in the summer iA. I've been hearing EP and some karakoram, coke studio's got my favorite paki music though. I'll definitely check that out and some on this list, cheers man. oh and happy Ramadan too! |
SitarHero
04.26.20 | Ohhh shit kya baat hai bhaiyon!
There were a couple of other transient desis who commented on a couple of reviews of Indian bands I did years ago, but none of them stuck around very long. |
Jethro42
04.26.20 | I love me some Coke Studio's Pakistan music. So honest, so warm, so rich...
Just as I am, except I'm not rich ;) |
SandwichBubble
04.26.20 | "I know of 3 desis now"
Add me to the list, how's it going?
Can't say I'm as dedicated to finding Indian music as you are to Pakistani music though. It's tough finding new stuff, I'm impressed. |
OmairSh
04.27.20 | @Flash: Ramadan mubarak to you too dude! From Lahore actually, but currently based in Canada! You're moving back permanently in the summer? Yeah man for the past few weeks I've really been in a desi mood, so exploring older and newer stuff. Honestly there's a revival in the Pak music scene with lots of younger bands, like Karakoram, Takatak (which is actually Djenty/prog metal/metalcore-ish), as well as the old guard. Coke Studio is definitely the best produced and most mature Pak music
@Sitar: Yeah I think I knew of a couple as well, but like you said, not as active as us wailas I guess XD
@Sandwich: Woot wooot! We're multiplying! Haha. Honestly I was out of touch with desi music for a while, and I have my phases where I listen to it, but recently I've been delving a bit deeper into and finding gems |
SitarHero
04.28.20 | Woaaahhh. Sandwich you're a desi? |
SandwichBubble
04.28.20 | Yea brother, representing all 1 American-Keralites on sputnikmusic.com (maybe)
I've been trying to find older indian music, but most of the stuff I've found are bollywood soundtracks. Still good stuff though. |
SitarHero
04.28.20 | Haha, well kind of. I'm 50% Mal too and currently American-ish. Then again, it's like the old joke:
Neil Armstrong's first sentence upon setting foot on the moon: "That's one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind."
His second sentence: "Chetaa uru chaiyaa" |
SandwichBubble
04.28.20 | Nice
Oh whoops 🕑👀
It's tea time ☕
Neyyappam and Glucose biscuits 🍪
Kerela mixture for a dime ₹ |
OmairSh
04.28.20 | I love how you guys have another dialect that's even more exclusive than urdu/hindi. Only the two of you can understand XD
@Sandwich, the youtube links in the list are for individual songs. There's some varied stuff on here that's much more interesting than Bollywood soundtracks. If nothing else, I'd suggest giving 5 and 13 a listen to see if they tickle your fancy |
SandwichBubble
04.28.20 | Bald man on entry 5 scatting around the 8-minute mark was nice (Ali Azmat I'm guessing?).
Pretty cool, I'll check 13 too. |
OmairSh
04.28.20 | That's actually Muazzam Ali Khan (the "balding" one, while Ali's the fully bald one haha). He's Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's nephew. That song's super moody and definitely a grower, glad you enjoyed! 4 is also a moody gem imo, and a bit shorter so more "digestible" I guess heh
If you want something heavier then I'd rec 2 or 16.
Bon appetit dude! |
SandwichBubble
04.28.20 | "He's Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan's nephew."
I've been meaning to check Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan actually, that's neat.
11 is awesome, gonna see if I can find some of their albums.
Thanks for the recs. |
RangerTaffles
05.01.20 | Surprised I'm not the only one from Pakistan here. I usually lurk around here but I just had to put it here that this is such a solid list. I'm also from Lahore and it's good to see some music being shared from our part of the world. Mauj, Vital Signs, Ali Azmat, early Jal, Noori and plenty of other bands are in my usual rotation. |
OmairSh
05.01.20 | @Sandwich: De Nada :-)
@Ranger: We out here representing m/. Glad to know there are more than I knew about. Guess this list united us haha. Thanks man, glad you like the list! You've probably heard most of what's on here anyway hah.
I'm back on a Pakistani binge and loving it. There's something in our rock/metal music that feels a bit different. When I'm in a desi music mood, I don't like listening to English songs, even songs I love haha. |
