10.31.11 | ^^ sounds psychedelic/proggy/pretentious as fuck |
RooseveltsGhost
10.31.11 | Pretentse can be thwarted if nobody from tool or btbam is allowed to have lyrical input |
JizzInMyPants
10.31.11 | can imagine mikael and steven going "HEY LETS REPEAT THIS FOR 3-4 MINUTES OVER" and it just be some empty electronic passage, thats why in my band i got vurtox and nick handling the song writing, most of the time they cut to the fucking point. Steven just makes his awesome electronic noises and be happy with that, and rody will just be a beast |
RooseveltsGhost
10.31.11 | IF something like that somehow made it past Lechtford's obsessive fretwork without at least a sweet jazzy lick or chill tapping section to support it, Gavin is a perfect plan B, because he's been filling Steven Wilson's boring sections so well that there is nary a moment since he joined PT that is entirely vapid. Lechtford is more "to the point" than 99% of guitarists out there, and IMO Gavin is the most tasteful rock drummer since Bonham. I thought about stealing Rody for myself, but I can't listen to him sing for very long and take it seriously. He can scream and yell and bellow all day and that's cool, but he's fucking metal and I'm just a boy. |

10.31.11 | i dunno i was never a fan of the interlude on time flies and i think part 1 of anesthesize overstays it's welcome for a good minute and a half. and him wasting time on incident disc 1 with pointless chugging tracks (circle of mantas not included) and i just find opeth boring overall but I went to their concert and it is def one of the best shows i been too. I mean the only track I fully like on BWP is bleak which is like one of my all-time favorite tunes so i dunno |

10.31.11 | fuuuuukk The Incident was great, but you're right, Gavin didn't bring the heat on most tracks(except Circle of Manias, which is quickly becoming my favorite on the album).
Did you go see this current Opeth tour? |
JizzInMyPants
10.31.11 | ya man, went there mainly for katatonia though, they disappointed but opeth brought it |
RooseveltsGhost
10.31.11 | Agreed. The setlist was brilliant, and Mikael is pretty funny. I ate an 1/8 of mushrooms before the show and it started to get atmospherically intense during I Feel the Dark. In a sense, I'll be kind of disappointed if Heritage isn't Opeth's departure from the death metal elements, because then an Opeth show like that will never happen again. |
