03.27.23 | Also the system bundle includes a choice between 3 Mario games which are Mario Kart 8 Ultimate, Super Mario Bros U and Mario Odyssey. Which of these 3 should I choose to start with? I'm stuck between Kart and Super Bros and regardless of which I pick I'll more than likely buy the other of the two within a month or two of buying the system. I'm so stoked to get this thing. Going with the base system rather than the OLED because when comparing them I think I'd rather save 50 bucks than get the couple benefits of the OLED. |

03.27.23 | And man I absolutely despise when album arts don't work on a list. It irks me when it's even just one but 3 out of 17 is ridiculous lol |

03.27.23 | mario kart is the only game you need, imo. tbf i haven't played anything else, but that shit never gets old for me! |
combustion07
03.27.23 | I haven't tried another Mario Kart aside from 64 but honestly it'd be pretty hard to mess that game up and I poured an obnoxious amount of time into 64 so I'm sure I'll love the new one. Realistically and I'm just buying this system for Zelda and Mario and the old games. Anything else is just a bonus but I'm sure I'll discover some other cool stuff. I was excited to learn they made a new Deadly Premonition too. Hopefully it has the vibe of the first |

03.27.23 | Super Mario Odyssey is the best game on the system imo, much better than NSMBU. for exclusives check out Cadence of Hyrule (Zelda + Necrodancer), Metroid Dread, and Mario + Rabbids which is a surprisingly solid Xcom-style turn-based tactics game. some good re-releases are Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (brand new DLC) |

03.27.23 | On the system bundle: get Mario kart if you’re playing with friends more often, get odyssey if you’re playing solo more often.
I still play breath of the wild to this day so get on it. Mario 3D world is sold with bowsers fury and both games fucking rule the school so.. get on it. Switch also has a number of great ports: Borderlands 2, Doom, Skyrim, Portal, Crysis, final fantasy x. As other mentioned there’s a bunch of other great games like Metroid dread, donkey Kong country. I would caution against the N64 ports; it’s an extra service that costs a lot more than the basic Nintendo membership and I’ve heard not-so-great things about the n64 port quality.
For me, this system is a revelation. Can play when I’m traveling for work, I don’t have to take the whole tv screen if the wife wants to watch Emily in Paris, and it’s a blast for multiplayer. You can play it fucking anywhere and the battery is just fine. Enjoy! |

03.27.23 | Fire Emblem: Three Houses is highly recommended

03.27.23 | Odyssey is the best of those three bundle games |

I much prefer Odyssey but it’s only single player. Also word of warning, to play older games (nes, snes, n64, gba, etc), you have to pay for online subscription. Look into prices and such to find what works best for you.
Lots of excellent games. Props for Deadly Premonition 2. Haven’t got around to playing it yet but love the original. If you like JRPGs, check out Shin Megami Tensei V, because it’s amazing and a console exclusive. Zelda: Links Awakening remake and Kirby Forgotten Lands are phenomenal. Honestly all kinds of games haha |

03.27.23 | everything gets a rerelease on switch so I mostly play ps2 games like katamari and DMC, it's a good console and the online games are nice |
ConcubinaryCode
03.27.23 | Dmc3 on switch is the only version that let's you swap between fighting styles on the fly so it's got that going for it. |

03.27.23 | Just play dark souls remastered like a dozen times |

03.28.23 | Yeah I've been researching a bunch and realized the N64 stuff requires the expansion pass too. I've heard iffy things on the port too but I made the mistake of letting my sister borrow my N64 and like 30 games for my nieces and nephews to play and she immediately sold the whole bundle for $45 and I've been livid and craving to play them again without dishing out big money to get them all back.
I may go with Kart to start with since I am planning on doing some multiplayer. I will end up getting Odyssey though because of all of the praise. I never owned Mario 64 back in the day and only briefly played it and Odyssey seems a lot like it and I could never quite tell if it's my kinda game or not.
I'm shocked by some of the games that have been ported over tbh the Doom games and Witcher 3 in particular. I also had no idea they did a sequel until I just decided on buying the system a few weeks ago and it's a big part of me making the choice to do it. Also excited to see LA Noire and Session on there since I've been wanting both of them too. May get the GTA trilogy on it too so I can replay those on the go. Been playing GTA IV on Xbox for the first time so it may be time to run through the others too |
ConcubinaryCode
03.28.23 | Your sister is a fucking dick bro. |
combustion07
03.28.23 | Yeah we've had our ups and downs but man I was so pissed. She straight up sold what I had left of my childhood while I was trying to be a good uncle showing the kiddos some timeless gems! I can't believe how cheap she listed it either, had 4 controllers and like half the games were fairly rare.
Also has anyone tried Call of Cthulhu or XIII? Those are two that I added to the wishlist that I'd never heard of before. Love Lovecraft so I'd imagine I'd dig Cthulhu and I just kinda want a shooter for the system on the note of the other one |
foxblood
03.29.23 | 'she immediately sold the whole bundle for $45'
dude that sucks so much, you must be very forgiving. she took a lowball offer too, selling the games at like a dollar a piece is insane. n64 games are especially pricey these days |
Veldin
03.29.23 | I made a similar mistake like a decade ago when I let my junkie friend borrow my n64 and all my games AND RUMBLE PACK |
PunkerBlast
03.29.23 | Yeah your sister should have got at least a hundred for that more if the games were rare as collectors still eat up that Nintendo stuff.
I am trying to think what to recommend though I don't have Switch myself I've played with it some. It does have some surprises on there. GTA IV is a blast. It's mostly serious and feels serious but there is still some hilarity in there for sure.
Oh I watched a review of call of cthlulu. It definitely didn't seem bad. It doesn't quite work as a shooter but, I can't imagine it's very pricey. Shin Megami Tensei V is a switch exclusive. It's open world actually unless you like jrpgs and know the series it may just be frustrating. Plus I heard some mixed things about it how it can get boring and it seems like the story is kinda dumb or sparse at times. SMT core games really aren't played for story but still eh. It's like they ran out of time in some areas and just had to put it out finally.
|
ConcubinaryCode
03.29.23 | Honestly it's shit like that that makes people not talk to their families anymore. I'd ask her to replace it and when she sees how much it will cost she'll realize her mistake.
Call of cthulu is ok, it was a games with gold title years ago and it's kinda fun as a detective games and it nails the aesthetics but everything else about it leaves much to be desires. XIII I heard the og is cool but the remaster job on newer consoles had a myriad of issues. Not sure if it ever got patched tbh |
PunkerBlast
03.29.23 | Yeah I didn't want to slam on combustion07's sister but she screwed up big especially since the user seemed to do a nice gesture for an entertainment option. At least look like you knew what you were doing.
Short story. I just find amusing now and even then mostly tbh I was a pretty chill person. I had a OG Xbox sold for drugs when it was still relevant. I left it at my neighbor's upstairs because he said he wanted to play it some more and then he left it at his friend's house and it was gone forever. I wonder how much drugs it was traded for.
Anyhow I was disappointed but I got over it. What hurt is that all my save files were on it (hard drive aye) So I lost stuff like Morrowind and Knights of the Old Republic data. I only brought over a small handful of games that seemed interesting to this guy so a Namco Museum of old arcade games and then Tony Hawk Underground maybe were gone too. Others I brought like Madden or whatever I just remember bringing back. |
tectactoe
03.29.23 | Odyssey is definitely the best of those bundle games. Mario Kart and Smash Ultimate are no brainers. If you vibe hard with nostalgia and/or loved Zelda games as a kid, the remake of Link’s Awakening is awesome (despite the typical Nintendo price tag). Not only graphically way better obviously, but big quality of life improvements too. I played a lot of the WarioWare games on GBA and DS and the one for Switch (forget the name) might be my second favorite of the series besides the original. |
PunkerBlast
03.29.23 | I too would say Odyssey if he didn't choose. Mario Kart can be picked up later. Sounds like he was going to get online so you could just play online vs randos you won't be put in a room full of veterans/expert players (unless someone decided they wanted to start over and just wreck some newbs :P) But Odyssey is really cool it will keep you busy for awhile even if you don't want to get all the moons.
I hadn't researched any new games for combustion, but I did mention SMT V only because of the lovecraft mention. It's got a darkness still to it. |
combustion07
03.31.23 | Man losing save files was such a bummer. A friend of mine back then stole a few full memory cards from me and I was livid. I've got that SMT game on my radar too now |
combustion07
03.31.23 | Got my switch in the mail today! Amazon offered free same day delivery and I was shocked that I actually received it within like 9 hours of ordering it! I'm not going crazy with buying games this check because 300 bucks is big time spending for me on one item already and it's actually over 400 at this point because I bought a second controller, 256gb SD card, and Nintendo Online Expansion Pass. Found some games on sale though so I did grab a few to get me started. I ended up picking up Mario Kart 8 as my free Mario game choice. That said all of the Mario stuff is on sale right now so I grabbed Odyssey also since y'all talked me into it. I got a physical copy of Deadly Premonition Origin with my system order to refresh my memory on it because the sequel was a major selling point for me on the Switch. Aside from that I got Call of Juarez Gunslinger and Call of Cthulhu on sale too both below double digits. Excited for both of them and they're both new to me. Red Dead 2 had me craving more westerns and I just love Lovecraft in general. Installed the typical free to play games too like Apex Legends and Rocket League. |
Zac124
03.31.23 | Mario Kart 8 and Odyssey are great games. I do also recommend Splatoon 3, if that game looks like your type of game, you'll probably enjoy it. Also, Breath of the Wild is one of the best games ever made so at some point you should get it, but that probably already been said in the thread already. |
ConcubinaryCode
04.01.23 | Check the online sales too. You can pick up great games for 5-10 bucks. You don't need to go all out on Nintendo games to have fun on switch. |
PunkerBlast
04.01.23 | I've ordered headphones off Best Buy and could not believe I got them in under 12 hours from ordering. Glad you got your Switch combustion!!! I actually watched a lot of call of juarez reviews for some reason, the game you want to stay away from is the cartel but otherwise they all seem pretty sweet for one reason or another.
Hope your enjoy the switch a lot combustion!!! Have you ever heard of Weird West?I haven't tried it yet but it mixes old west with some witchcraft and that sorta vibe. It's on PC though and not the Switch unfortunately yet, I am sure you got a lot of good games to sink ya teeth into to. |
combustion07
04.01.23 | I need to look into the Splatoon series. At first I was looking at a switch themed after it. Breath of the Wild is 100% my next purchase for it. That game and the upcoming Tears are the reasons I grabbed this system now. Figured I'd warm up to the controls and whatnot with a couple games before I grab it though and maybe play some older Zelda games with the expansion pass while I'm at it. The main thing I've played so far is the SNES Zelda so far.
I haven't heard of Weird West but I'm gonna look it up because that sounds way up my alley! Love westerns and occult stuff in general. I've never done pc gaming but my friend has been trying to convince me to get into it |
PunkerBlast
04.01.23 | It's on PS4 and Xbox too. The ppl who made dishonored made it. If that means anything but a video review on youtube of Weird West could be fun just to get a sense of it ACG reviewed it. He's a cool lowkey no sponsor bs guy. |
combustion07
04.05.23 | Started playing Weird West a bit on the Xbox and I'm really digging it so far! Also just finished my revisit of Deadly Premonition and man I forgot how much I love that game. As janky as it can be at times it's just got so much damn charm and a vibe out of this world. Very excited to check the second one out soon. As of now I've started Call of Cthulhu and Call of Juarez Gunslinger. I'm normally good at shooters but Juarez is kicking my ass so far lol. Having a blast with this system though. I'm a janitor at an elementary school and it's spring break rn so I basically have a week of downtime at work so I've been getting major use out of it so far |
combustion07
04.26.23 | Got Breath of the Wild on the 14th and I haven't been this sucked into a game since back when I was real young with Ocarina of Time! I only have one Divine Beast left then I fight Ganon but I've been dragging it out with the shrines and side quests so I finish up right around when the new one drops. Very excited for that day to come. Might pick up the Hyrule Warriors prequel until then too.
Also grabbed LA Noire and been enjoying it although I am stuck on the movie business case at the moment |
PotsyTater
04.26.23 | I thought breath of the hyrule warriors kinda sucked unfortunately but if you are a huge sucker for the warriors games you might get something out of it
Also it’s not an actual prequel like they advertised, it’s just bullshit time travel alt timeline fuckery |
Colton
04.26.23 | new zelda looks nuts |
combustion07
04.26.23 | Ah damn that's disappointing it's not truly a prequel. I've actually never tried the Warriors games so I don't know what to expect at all tbh. I've just been considering getting it to extend the experience I've been having with botw.
I'm on the fence between getting it or one of the newer Pokemon games next. Not even sure which to grab for Pokemon yet though. Aside from up to Silver and Gold the only more modern one I've played was Sun |
combustion07
04.26.23 | New Zelda does look amazing indeed. Most hype I've been for a new game in many years. I'm normally a few years behind on gaming though so it's rare for me to jump on something new. Last game I pre-ordered was Farcry Primal I think |
naughtcturnal
04.26.23 | Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak is some of the most fun I’ve had playing a game in the past decade with over 200+ hours of gameplay on my save file
If you’re into horror, there is this terrifying korean horror game called White Day: A Labyrinth named School
I am also playing Fatal Frame: Maiden of the Black Water. It’s not super scary but has really cool gameplay mechanics.
Every Zelda game is recommended, even the spin-offs. Having quite a bit of fun with Cadence of Hyrule atm which is a Crypt of the Necrodancer/LoZ spinoff |

04.26.23 | Get Odyssey [256] |
Colton
04.26.23 | yeah Odyssey is a beautiful game |

04.26.23 | I'm positive they will announce a new Mario game later this year after they make 6 trillion dollars from Zelda, possibly Odyssey 2. if we're lucky it will come out around holiday 2024 |

04.26.23 | maybe even a launch title for the next console |
combustion07
04.26.23 | I actually grabbed Odyssey awhile back when it was on sale. I haven't played much of it yet since I got so addicted to Zelda but I really enjoy what I've played of it so far. Eventually I'm going to end up diving through all of the Mario options on the system. So far though I've spent more time on Mario Kart than I have on actual Odyssey though. Plan to change that soon though |

04.26.23 | @combustion re warriors I definitely wouldn’t go in blind to the franchise and it’s many spin offs. This might be a hot take but I actually preferred the first hyrule warriors because there are at least a lot more characters which was always part of the draw of the warriors games to begin with. I grew up with the warriors games and liked them a lot, and I’ve found with the spin offs the more they try to be the ip they are working with, the less fun they are, because the warriors formula works best when it’s just mindlessly slaughtering as many minions as possible and capturing bases, and the more barriers there are between you and doing just that, the more tedious they become. They tried too hard with the persona 5 warriors and the second hyrule warriors imo. And hyrule warriors 2 didn’t have enough cool characters to use so you pretty much just end up wanting to play impa and link the whole time and begrudgingly accepting having to play people like zelda and the two gorons etc.
As for Pokémon I absolutely hated violet and scarlet but I really liked sword and shield. Most people feel the opposite but they are wrong. Do with that info what you will. |

The next biggest thing, I thought that kirby game was absolutely dreadful too, still tryna wrap my mind around people defending that one as well |

04.26.23 | @pizza I meant the forgotten whatever was terrible not the one you just mentioned lol, haven’t played that |

04.26.23 | It looks extremely girlfriend friendly, I’m assuming it must have couch coop? |
combustion07
04.26.23 | Any of you guys tried Pokemon Arceus? My friend has been telling me to go with that one but I don't know much of anything about it aside from the fact that it apparently deviates from the typical Pokemon formula.
Also I might end up going with the first Hyrule Warriors based off your comment. Tons of characters in a hack and slash sounds pretty fun. Still need to snag up the dlc for botw too so might do em both at once.
I think the next Mario I'm getting will be Mario Maker 2 just due to the sheer amount of content in it. Bowsers Fury looks appealing too though, along with Party All Stars.
Been looking at the new Smash Bros too but I don't really have people to play with so idk if I'd get much use out of it |
pizzamachine
04.27.23 | “it must have couch coop?”
Indeed it do |
PotsyTater
04.27.23 | I liked arceus. It was a nice change of pace and it did “(semi)open world pokemon” way better than scarlet and Violet did. |
combustion07
04.27.23 | I had no idea Scarlet/Violet had an open world aspect. Are they still set up to where there's basically no difference between the two when they do the Scarlet/Violet and Sword/Shield style releases? I'll do some research on Arceus and Sword/Shield to decide what I grab. Seems to definitely be between the two.
This system has been completely murking my free time lol |
PotsyTater
04.27.23 | Yes same differences as usual. Version exclusives and that’s about it. When you played the older games were you about the grind and doing nerdy shit like EV training and battle tower? Or were you more just out there to leisurely adventure about and catch ‘em all? Because if the latter there’s a higher chance you’ll enjoy sword and shield than the former |
combustion07
04.27.23 | I do enjoy the nerdy shit to an extent but I'd say the bulk of my time playing was strolling around and catching em all so Sword/Shield it is.
I've got my eyes on the new Donkey Kong too but I need to look it up and see if it's in the style of DK64 or not cuz that's what I'm hoping for |
PotsyTater
04.27.23 | Tropical Freeze? Yeah it’s like DK64 but 2.5D. Metroid Dread was another great 2.5D game |
PotsyTater
04.27.23 | Oh wait yeah so no it is not like dk64 lol |
combustion07
04.27.23 | Damn that's kinda a bummer. Might try it anyway. DK64 was the only DK game I really played along with Diddy Kong Racing. I loved them both and although I never actually beat DK64 I spent so much damn time on the game. It's probably in my top 5 most played on the N64 which along with the NES made up a good chunk of my childhood |
Colton
04.27.23 | playing BOTW again and I know this isn’t a fair comparison but the last game I played was Uncharted 4 on PS5 and god damn is BOTW ugly and sluggish in comparison |
combustion07
04.27.23 | Maybe I have low expectations when it comes to games but I didn't find it sluggish at all. Haven't tried the Uncharted games though but eventually I'm gonna grab a ps5 when they run a good sale and I'll definitely try it. Been craving a ps5 lately too so I can play the Shadow of Colossus remake. Playstation has the best exclusives imo but I still went Xbox just because I already owned hundreds of games on the previous console |
Colton
04.27.23 | the frame rate isn’t great |

04.27.23 | I’m a huge Zelda fan but a game that looks and runs the same as BOTW in 2023 is a bit of a tough sell, they really need to make the Switch 2 |

04.27.23 | I've definitely heard people talk about the frame rate and all of that. I just don't know if I really notice things like that when I play games. I grew up with an NES and N64 though so most things now just seem impressive to me regardless and I've always been more into gameplay than graphics and whatnot. |

Someone tell me which Resident Evil to get while they're running the sale. Got the first on Xbox already so any of them aside from it. Also is Vampyr worth a shot? Looking at Fenyx Rising too |
naughtcturnal
06.16.23 | Get REmake a second time bundled with RE0. Also purchase it for every other console you own.
Vampyr is good. Pretty long action/rpg game with loads of player choice. Combat, visuals and loading times are kinda ass on the switch but if you can get past that, game can be a good time.
Fenyx Rising is budget greek mythology BOTW. Everything about this game on the switch is good except the visuals. Runs very smoothly in dockedd and in handheld mode and is very fun to play. Nowhere near as good BOTW but still worth it if cheap |

08.29.23 | Katana Zero and Hades |
