05.21.14 | Went to see this with my girlfriend... I know, I suck at dating |
fallenbird
05.21.14 | God, no one appreciates build up anymore. This was the best monster movie I have ever seen because it actually worked as a genuine movie rather than a dumb 2-hour action scene. Imo, no monster movie (and most comic book movies) have failed to deliver in terms of being quality theater experiences without being campy, cheesy, or ridiculously dumb (Check Spiderman 3 for all 3). This was the exception. |
fallenbird
05.21.14 | Solid 3.5/5. |
Thunderkat
05.21.14 | is it better than the new spiderman? |
TheGreatQ
05.21.14 | Yes Thunderkat, I think so |
SeaAnemone
05.21.14 | congratulations you are the reason movies are bad |
Onirium
05.21.14 | New Spiderman was really bad |
TheGreatQ
05.21.14 | And fallenbird, it wasn't that I don't appreciate buildup. If they had actually written it well it would have been fine, but I thought
it wasn't. |
fallenbird
05.21.14 | It was written well. The father in that movie was incredible! Also the script was solid all around, without any garbage/cheesy speeches and shit. |
TheGreatQ
05.21.14 | Yeah, he was good. He was also the only interesting character and died really fast. |
fallenbird
05.21.14 | I do wish he was there for longer. The lack of tension for the characters was the movies biggest flaw but it didn't harm it that much. |

05.21.14 | It's alright, the new Transformers is out soon. I'm sure you'll enjoy that |

demigod!
05.21.14 | based on the reviews i've read, i dont think i wanna spend 2 hours in a theater for it
will wait for the dvd/netflix/good quality rip to pirate I suppose. unless someone convinces me it's really really worth seeing. |
FearThyEvil
05.21.14 | Another good monster movie is the japanese movie called the host (2006) not to be confused with the god awful 2013 film with the same name. |

It's a fantastic movie and worth seeing |

Only chose to see the first, and I was 14. @fear I'll check it out. The Japanese one, that is haha |
BlackLlama
05.21.14 | Yeah, just about all of my friends have given a similar review; guess I'll be skipping Godzilla until dvd/streaming time.

AtomicShane
05.21.14 | pacific rim for action
godzilla for the buildup
I thought the movie was awesome. only complaint I have is that aaron johnson is pretty emotionless. other than that its pretty fun to get your balls shook by the intense godzilla roar in the theaters. |
ScuroFantasma
05.21.14 | I thought it was pretty good, and the method he uses to kill the last creature is insanely awesome. Go for the Godzillaness. At least you get to see the creatures in this movie, instead of all the other crappy 'giant monster' movies where they are all so dark and hidden and the camera is at a terrible angle or shaking in an attempt to hide shoddy CG. |
SitarHero
05.21.14 | Not enough fighting monsters dammit. I mean yes, I get it. You're watching them from the protagonist's perspective, but for fucks sake, if I was the protagonist I'd be gawking and taking pics on my cellphone like nobody's business. |
ScuroFantasma
05.21.14 | The people are so useless in this movie too. Nothing they do effects the outcome of the movie, except the initial 'saving the egg' thing. The bomb doesn't do anything but lure the monster once. The shooting and tanks have zero effect on any of the creatures too. I guess it just makes them more badass. |
Calc
05.21.14 | the movie was fine, the director used the monsters as a good backdrop instead of just throwing CG fighting at our faces for 2 hours which honestly would've sparked much more whining. |

05.21.14 | "The people are so useless in this movie too. Nothing they do effects the outcome of the movie, except the initial 'saving the egg' thing."
And of course removing the nuclear bomb from the city, not to mention killing potentially thousands of unborn muto... |
ScuroFantasma
05.21.14 | They put the bomb there in the first place though; a bomb which ends up doing nothing to kill the creatures and becomes a hazard to pretty much everyone around it. And literally one dude kills the unborn. |
Trebor.
05.21.14 | Just saw Flat, Uninteresting White Navy Man. There was a cameo by Godzilla in it. |

05.21.14 | "They put the bomb there in the first place though;"
Not exactly unrealistic
"a bomb which ends up doing nothing to kill the creatures"
They hijack it before it could be detonated
"And literally one dude kills the unborn."
Not exactly useless |
Trebor.
05.21.14 | Half the movie was Ken Watanabe staring at things
It's like dude we could use some fucking hustle there are monsters tearing shit up right now |
ScuroFantasma
05.21.14 | I understand why they put the bomb there in the first place, but if the biggest moment of heroism during a monster rampage is removing their own explosive from the city...
And I could be wrong too, but wasn't the bomb on a timer? But yeah, props to that one guy for doing the most damage to the creatures out of literally everyone besides Godzilla. |
Deviant.
05.21.14 | "I understand why they put the bomb there in the first place, but if the biggest moment of heroism during a monster rampage is removing their own explosive from the city..."
Well when their plan backfired and they realised that none of their weapons were going to be effective... I mean, it's far from illogical that they would attempt to retrieve a nuclear fucking weapon from the middle of a still-populated city and evac it. Especially after Watanabe had convinced them that Godzilla would prevail. Do you think they would just leave the bomb there or something? I mean... |
ScuroFantasma
05.21.14 | No, no. I'm just saying that in the end, despite their intentions or whatever they hoped they would achieve, nothing they did majorly influenced the outcome, apart from the destruction of the unborn. That 1 soldier and Godzilla could have achieved the same result alone, pretty much. I understand what you're saying though, it would have made no sense to do nothing at all, but in the end it achieved zero, and maybe that's what the movie is drawing atttention to; the inability for humans to control 'everything' despite what they believe. "The arrogance of men is thinking nature is in their control and not the other way around." |
