While I am still assembling my top 25, this is a much better indicator of what I liked from this year. 2012 was a great year for music because there was a lot of really solid stuff. However, it really lacked a lot of defining albums, with none of these truly making a huge impact on me. |

even taking that into account, it's a bit weird to see people with 3 or even 3.5 ratings with almost nothing but negative things to say about the album. why not use the full range of ratings a bit more. and it leads to a lot of users inflating their review scores because they think people won't check it out if it's anything less than 4/5 |

in regards to Rush, it didn't grown off of me as much as my attention towards it waned. I had just listened to it that week and it was fresher. Same with Circa Survive which i have at a 3.5 |

I find myself criticizing a lot of albums I 3'd not because I disliked it because I almost have to justify why I "only" liked the album to the extent of a 3, as opposed to a 3.5+. Likewise, if I'm disappointed by some artist I'm a fan of, a 3 might be representative of my actual enjoyment of the album, but my disappointment causes me to point out the flaws.
Just a different perspective though.
And yeah I know nothing on here but I suspect nothing much would interest me lol |

yeah I agree, and people here do tend to slap a 3.5 on something they don't like but are afraid to admit it. I just don't think it's worth worrying over that much because these people are usually just in it for the hype trains and hive-mind anyway. |

anyways yeah just the entire process is more work than I'd like. Suppose I get to something folk. I don't mind folk but I find a lot of it to be rather samey and I just give it a 3 and never listen to it again. So do I listen to it or not? Considering there's tons of other stuff I wanna check out (or stuff I wanna revisit) it's just impractical. Not to mention I feel my tastes are profoundly different than staff's. I couldn't stand #4 but everyone says it's the best thing ever. |
