They have released 9 studio records, and theyhavesold over 17millionrecordsworldwide. They have long been cited as innovators and helped to popularize alternative rock inthenineties.

They released their eponymous first album, lovingly dubbed the “Blue Album,” to avoid confusion with their 2001 and 2008self-titledreleases.Thanks in large part to producer Ric Ocasek (of the Cars fame), and a series of innovative videos thatreceivedconstant rotationonMTV, theBlue Album hailed 3 hit singles, “Undone – The Sweater Song”, “Buddy Holly”, and “Sayit Ain't So.” Ithas gone on to sell over3millioncopies, and remains their most successful album. They quickly returned in 1996with Pinkerton, which abandoned the power-popsound of theirfirst album, with darker tones and more personal lyrics. Itsrelease was hindered bya lawsuit that prevented their labelfromadvertising itproperly, and as a result, it was a critical andcommercial failure upon itsrelease, being called “The Second Worst Albumof1996” by RollingStone. However, Pinkerton soondeveloped a cult following andcritical acclaim, with many fans calling it their bestwork. They soon went onhiatus after theinitial failure of Pinkerton and lostbassist Matt Sharp, who started to focus more on his side –project, TheRentals.

In 2001, they returned with their second self-titled record, (the Green Album). It was another major hit with its singles“HashPipe”and“Islandin the Sun.” The next year, they released Maladroit, which saw the band experimenting a little more, withtheresult garneringmixedreactions. In 2005, Weezer released Make Believe, which also received mixed reviews. Leadsingle“Beverly Hills” was their first #1ModernRock singleand also earned the band its first Grammy nomination. The nextsingle, however, “Perfect Situation” has boasted themostsuccess, with a stayat #1 for 4 weeks on the Modern Rock charts.In2008, they released their third self-titled album, (the Red Album)whichfeatured “Pork andBeans.” This was quickly followedbytwo more studio efforts that were extremely hit and miss, the poppy Raditude(whichfeatured another hitsingle in “(IfYou’reWondering If I Want You To) I Want You To” and Hurley, which continued the bands progress infullyjumping theshark, bydonning a full headshot of actor Jorge Garcia (who played the character Hurley on the TV show Lost) asitsalbumartwork.

After another four year hiatus, the band released their ninth studio album Everything With Be Alright In The End, whichhasthebandreturningback to their original mid-90s sound, with many fans claiming that it is the best album that the bandhasreleased since theheightof theircritical popularity in the mid-nineties. « hide
