Red Hot Chili Peppers
Rock

The Red Hot Chili Peppers are a band born and bred in LA. School friends Anthony Kiedis (vox) and Mike Balzary (Flea), Jack Irons (drums) and Hillel Slovak (Guitar) formed a band that quickly became popular on the LA live circuit for their raucous, lively and often naked performances.

After three reasonably successful albums (RHCP, Freaky Styley, and Uplift Mofo Party Plan), Hillel died of a heroin overdose (drugs being an issue that had and would plague the band for years). After three reasonably successful albums (RHCP, Freaky Styley, and Uplift Mofo Party Plan), Hillel died of a heroin overdose (drugs being an issue that had and would plague the band for years). Jack left, Kiedis The 90's marked a decade of change, peaks and troughs for the Chilis. Their masterwork Blood Sugar Sex Magik was massive, too massive for John (who had always wanted the Chilis to stay true to their roots). He left the band to struggle as a heroine addict. The 1995 album with Jane's Addiction's Dave Navarro in the guitar slot was successful at the time, but is now recognised as a poor move for the Chilis, moving to a heavier and more guitar oriented metal.

Frusciante (clean after nearly dying many times) was drawn back to the band and in 1999 they created their most successful, more mainstream rock album Californication. By The Way followed in 2002, showing off a more mature and experimental side of the Chilis. The ever lasting chemistry between the guitarists of the Chili's and virtuoso bass of Flea, coupled with the boistrous lyrics of Kiedis and the pounding rythms of Chad Smith have made a plethora of great songs and the Chilis are now one of the biggest stadium acts in the world.

In 2006 they released Stadium Arcadium to much critical appeal. It reached no. 1 on the billboard album charts and propelled them to become arguably the most popular band on Earth. « hide
