  • Vats I hope you're right but I have a sinking feeling they're content to rest on their laurels now. I thought, having watched the drummer auditions, Marco Minnemann might've been a better choice as drummer cos he might've led them in an interesting direction, judging from the things he's done since then (especially with Guthrie Govan in The Aristocrats and in Steven Wilson's solo project). You're right when you say Mike Mangini was a "safe" choice.

  • Vats Hey Thompson, How're you doing? Read your review of Dream Theater's self-titled. I thought this line from your review brilliantly summed up the whole CD: "...the band's relatively formulaic approach to anti-formulaicness". I was just glad they went back to E standard tuning on "Dramatic Turns", haha! Never thought the heavier style they tried to pursue since "Train of Thought" (mostly Portnoy's idea) worked with LaBrie's vocals.
