A band formed by Frank Zappa. Their name attached to Zappa's is best known for the first concept album, 1966's Freak Out! Despite virtually no support from their record company, The Mothers released albums throughout the 60s, until disbanding in 1969. In 1970, Zappa reformed the band with a new lineup, and regularly released albums with them (as well as solo albums of his own) until 1975, when Zappa permanently disbanded the Mothers.
