Over 30 years after their split, the 25th anniversary of John Lennon's death made global headlines this year, just months after Paul McCartney opened and closed London's Live 8 extravaganza. In other words, even though we're now a long way past the band's existence, their legacy is virtually incalcuable.
Starting with the early pop days of "Please Please Me" and "Help!", the band's sound matured throughout their career, with the major transition point arguably coming in 1966, when they released "Revolver", which is widely seen as one of the greatest albums ever recorded. After the release of this album they decided to stop playing live, but their creative output was not inhibited by this. Over 1967 and 1968, they released "Magical Mystery Tour", "Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" and "The White Album", all of which showed different facets to the band's approach to music.
