this time with 90% more piano, mariachi horns, string instruments, and pained groaning from Elias Bender. this album shows a band desperately trying to evolve their sound. Though they aren't quite there yet, they come pretty damn close.

this album doesn't have the spark the self titled did, the last album had a little bit, but now it's just mediocre music. the singles are great, even though "catalina fight song" could have been 2 minutes longer.

every song I've heard by this guy sound like has voice is panned 100%left center and right 10 db louder than everything else. sounds like every mumford and sons, imagine dragons, of monsters and men song I've ever heard

Been spinning this for months and it's still just as good. I don't listen to this and hear "shoegaze" I hear kind of melodic throwback 90s grunge with reverby vocals. It's just a solid album.

Listened to this at least 5 times today. An eerie atmosphere. Dueling male and female vocals. With powerful pop hooks and harmonies in a haze of melodic guitars and steady drumming. This album warps dark atmospheres into beautiful melodies in very interesting ways.

This album is a lot of fun. Great for listening on repeat. And the middle of "Strawberries 1 + 2" totally goes into this groove that sounds exactly like one of Godspeed's new songs. Kinda funny. Just a great garagey, experimental album. Fantano was wrong.

this album is pretty homogenous and unmemorable but a few tracks shine through the hazy production, namely "Head In The Ceiling Fan", "Secret Society", and "Make You Cry".

Parquet Courts Light Up Gold3.5
Holograms Holograms3.5
A bleak but uplifting modern take on post punk featuring simple guitar parts, high pitched Joy Divisionesque
bass lines, and a synthesizer that makes cool noises. Also some nice production on this. An overlooked gem
from 2012.

I really love a lot of the ideas on this album. Specifically the trumpet sections, which is why I bought it. But
some parts really rub me the wrong way. Some of vocal parts really annoy me and take away from the music.
Really only on the track "Hands Are For Helping", it makes me cringe. Maybe I was prepared for ALL THE
EMOTIONS. But overall it's a very pulled together sounding record with a lot of interesting musical ideas and
textures. I will see if it grows on me.

catchy and frantic, strokes-worshipping rock. I haven't heard anything that sounds quite like this before. Sadly, Balkans near perfect debut (their only album) will most likely remain overlooked.

Been jamming to this on the highway driving out of the city. It's fittingly noisy for the chaos and insanity that is the 5 o clock commute. Great album. Some songs go a little overboard but that's the kind of band Mclusky is.

Just do not see what people see in this. There are a few hits, "Something I Learned Today" being one of them. Randomized piano parts. Frustratingly repetitive singing. Bad lyrics. Compared to other classic acts (Bad Brains, Minor Threat) this doesn't compare. As much as I wanted it to. Have no inclination to return for another listen.
