Freddie Gibbs and Madlib Pinata |
Honestly I don't see how any rapper in the game could top this album in 2014. I mean you have one of the best producers ever and Freddie gibbs was on point on almost every song. This reminds me of the madvillian album. |
Funeral Advantage Body is Dead |
There's one word that comes to mind when describing this album: 'Lifeless'. How can something sound so good and yet be lifeless at the same time? It amazes me how this album is able to pull something like this off. The arpeggiated guitar playing throughout this album are reminiscent of acts like American Football mixed with a dreamy atmosphere of bands like Wild Nothing. The keys provide a backdrop for the songs which give it such a unique and almost daunting atmosphere. The vocals are also on point. I love how he can be subdued at some points but then on some tracks he increases his range to provide sweet pop vocal melodies. Favorite track is probably the bass-driven "You Sat Alone" which has a great groove throughout the song and an awesome cascading guitar melody in the pre-chorus. My gripes with this album are minimal. The drumming is kind of boring and the ending of "Body Is Dead" is such a huge letdown. The song drops out and builds up to what you think is going to be a brilliant crescendo of some sort and the guitar line for this "crescendo" is such a boring let down. They could have done something so amazing with that ending but instead chose to put some boring guitar part that plays on for way too long. Other than that, this album is amazing and could very well be my AOTY. |

Such an amazing record..second favorite album this year (after A Great Big Pile of Leaves's album ) |
Hopsin Raw |
Hostage Calm Hostage Calm |
The drummer in this band is my favorite drummer in the scene right now. He absolutely kills it on this record and anyone who plays drums has to listen to this album. All-around fantastic album. |
It Prevails Stroma |
After multiple listens, I have to say that this is It Prevails's strongest release. It's even better than their new one 'Perdition'. Every song on this LP is emotionally gripping and passionate. The guitar parts are tremendous and filled with melody. The vocals are amazing, both harsh and clean. I gained so much respect for their lead singer after I found out he wrote all the guitar parts, the structures of the songs, and of course his amazing singing parts. It Prevails is in my opinion, the best Melodic Hardcore band in the sub genre. They're doing it better than Counterparts and should be getting more recognition for it. |

This album is so fuckin catchy. The melodies, the lyrics, even some riffs get stuck in my head and are constantly on repeat in my brain! I love this album |

Neck Deep Life's Not Out To Get You |
The more and more I listen to this LP from Neck Deep, the more that one word comes to mind: FUN. This album is just loaded with nothing but a good time. The riffs are fun, the lyrics are fun (at most times), the vocals are fun. This is everything that I've been searching for in a pop-punk release. Hats off to this band for crafting a really excellent album and shattering their 'run of the mill' shit pop punk that a ton of bands are trying out nowadays. Other than a few weak tracks (December, Citizens of Earth, Serpents) this album is consistent as hell and is one of my favorite pop punk LP's I've ever heard. |

Melodic hardcore mixed with pop punk deliciousness. This EP riffs my fucking anus open and drops melodic tinged grenades down my colon. That being said, Such Gold fucking rules and this EP is amazing. |

The Bouncing Souls How I Spent My Summer Vacation |
The Dangerous Summer Mother Nature |
The Dangerous Summer return to form since their 2nd full-length ?War Paint?. Every album since didn?t do it for me but this one manages to be fresh in the pop-punk realm while experimenting with new sounds for the band that compliment AJ?s sick vocals. 4.5/5 for me |

Toro Y Moi What For? |
This albums so fucking catchy! Perfect summer album for this Florida weather |
Touche Amore Stage Four |
Touche Amore's most melodic endeavor thus far but god damn it hits. This album will become a classic and quite possibly their opus. I actually liked the vocal variety on the album. Skyscraper is such an interesting song. I didn't like it at first but now I can't get it out of my head. Pummeling drums, melodic guitars, vocal variety, extremely honest and personal lyrics. Going to be a classic in a few years. |

A more relaxed effort as compared to ?You?re Always on My Mind? but still solid and brings AGBPOL?s normal vibes from past records. This is what ?The National? should?ve sounded like instead of snoozer music. |

Diggin this band HARD. Love how much the vocals sound like Anthony Green and the fact that he plays complex drum parts while belting out catchy as hell hooks is very impressive. This band wreaks talent and they are going to be a huge success in the near future. Definitely would have been one of my favorite releases of 2014. |
Handguns Angst |
This album really is a guilty pleasure. People are expecting way too much from this band. The album is called "Angst" for christ's sake. Nevertheless, these guys wanted to create a catchy album that brings listeners back to their younger days. Ala sounds of garage doors opening and closing at the beginning and end of the album, bike riding, love, parental relationships. All the things you would expect from a teenager's life. |

I Call Fives First Things First EP |
I Call Fives I Call Fives |
It Prevails Perdition |
One of my favorite releases of 2015 thus far. Soaring choruses, great melodic guitar lines, and uplifting lyrical content..this LP has it all. I guess my only gripe is that the harsh vocals are kind of hard to make out but other than that this album is a great post-hardcore/melodic hardcore release. Going to check previous discography out now because of this! |
Jarren Benton My Grandmas Basement |
Jimmy Eat World Bleed American |
Joyce Manor Never Hungover Again |
A lot of the melodies remind me of stuff the smiths had on their records |

Another catchy record from Joyce Manor. These guys are so damn consistent and the fact that they are able to make subtle changes in their sound while pulling it off. Love these guys! |
Just Surrender If These Streets Could Talk |
Kevin Krauter Full Hand |
Excellent release from underground artist Kevin Krauter. Little bit of chillwave mixed with dream pop. Great melodies and awesome production. One of the best releases of 2020 thus far! |
Kid Dynamite Shorter, Faster, Louder |
Last Dinosaurs Wellness |
Guitar hooks, guitar hooks, guitar hooks..this album is insanely catchy with great grooves and melodies. The only gripe with the album is how synthetic everything kind of sounds on the album but the consistency from front to back makes up for it |

These guys can't make bad music. However, I like 'Days' a little more because it went for a little more of a pop direction, where as this album seems a lot more lo-fi and mellowed out |

The Menzingers On the Impossible Past |
The Menzingers Rented World |
The menzingers make a straightforward, somewhat mainstream punk album while still coming up with intricate melodies that stick out. These guys just continue to make great music with each release. |

Definitely had to listen to it more than USAD to fall in love but goddamn this band knows how to begin and end an album. Solid release no doubt |

Alkaline Trio From Here to Infirmary |
Alkaline Trio Agony and Irony |
Alkaline Trio My Shame Is True |
Matt's guitar playing is definitely a lot better on this record. 'She Lied to the FBI' might be my new favorite Alkaline Trio song. This album isn't really doin much for me though. Hopefully it'll grow on me, but it just sounds SO similar to the songs off their last two albums. |
Bane Give Blood |
Lyrically, this album is awesome with Themes of being on tour, staying strong, and even living a full life. However, the vocalist doesn't really seem to flow his vocals all too well rhythmically. They probably recorded his vocals last or something. |
Banner Pilot Souvenir |
Hold Fast is such a jam!!!! Pretty enjoyable release from Banner Pilot but there's some lackluster tracks like Colifax.. Collapser will always be their opus. |
Braid No Coast |
The other guy who isn't bob nanna absolutely sucks at singing. Why isn't it just Nanna on all the tracks?!?? |
Circa Survive Blue Sky Noise |

Gates (USA-NJ) Parallel Lives |
A toned down effort from Gates that displays their strengths; Catchy choruses, atmosphere, and great vocals. However, it lacks the punch that their predecessor had. Still a great release and I'm sure it'll grow on me a bit more. |

Nai Harvest Hairball |
I actually found this album to be quite enjoyable. Especially here in the Florida summer. With pounding drum beats, melodic guitar riffs, and anthematic choruses, this LP really reminded me of something from Cloud Nothings or a Japandroids record. There are a few drawbacks though. 1. The production on the vocals is kind of off-putting but I get that they were trying to go for a Lo-Fi/Garage Rock type sound..the vocals just didn't compare to how they sounded on their most recent EP. 2. The tracks on this album can be quite repetitive. Not that they all sound the same, but each song will pound it's hook into your head, or maybe a guitar riff into your head, or maybe a drum pattern..catch my drift. 3.Theres some throwaway tracks in my opinion (I.e., 'Gimme Gimme' and even the title track was kind of a letdown). All in all, this albums not terrible, but it's not amazing either. Definitely worth checking out though if you're looking for a good summer indie rock record. |

Owen The Seaside EP |
Owen Owen |
Owen No Good for No One Now |
Owen Ghost Town |
Polar Bear Club Clash Battle Guilt Pride |
Prawn Kingfisher |
If this was a Brand New record it would be getting 4.5-5's but because it's Prawn, it'll get 3.5-4 ratings! All in all, I enjoy the majority of the songs on here. The slow-tempo songs kinda bring it down but songs like "First as Tragedy....." And "Dialectic Of.." Are what make me come back for more! |
